Preview of Cypress's Gen5 Controller with innovative noise suppression and waterproofing
Cypress Korea (General Manager Lim Young-do) will launch the Gen5 TrueTouch controller product line, which boasts excellent noise immunity, starting in late February.
Gen5 provides 40-volt peak-to-peak (Vpp) charger noise immunity measured from 1 to 500 kHz with a 0.5 mm cover lens and a finger-sized lens up to 22 mm, which is the strictest specification, as no existing controller has delivered more than 15 Vpp of noise immunity under the same conditions.
Cypress's Gen5 controller is designed as a new analog front-end that drives touchscreens at a high frequency of 10V, featuring narrow bandwidth, single-pass scan, and advanced hardware DSP filtering capabilities. Gen5's superior noise immunity enables designers to create next-generation terminal designs that implement ultra-thin display-integrated stack-ups, including In-Cell, On-Cell, and Direct Lamination, with noise-free displays. As a result, there are no mistouches or touch errors, enabling thinner and more sophisticated products with low jitter of less than 0.5mm.
"Cypress's Marketing Director, John Carey, stated, 'Cypress continues to lead innovation in the touchscreen field, and the new Gen5 now eliminates noise from any charger.'" “Gen5 not only eliminates performance issues that lead to product return but also simplifies touchscreen design and reduces overall product costs, while delivering the best touchscreen user experience,” they stated.
In addition, the Gen5 family offers superior water resistance against rain, condensation, and sweat, and boasts a 120Hz refresh rate and 4.5 uW deep-sleep mode via an ARMM-core processor. The new Gen5 devices currently support up to 5-inch screens, provide up to 36 capacitive sensing I/O for ideal sensor pitch, and support independent CapSense touch-sensing buttons.
