February 20, 2013, Seoul – NXP Semiconductors (Nasdaq: NXPI) announced the launch of GloTOP 2.5G, the latest product in ATOP, an automotive telematics module specifically designed for Russia's GLONASS satellite system.

The GloTOP product, capable of receiving both GLONASS satellites and GPS, features the ability to automatically select the optimal signal for accurate location determination. This product can be quickly and easily integrated into vehicle telematics applications that transmit and receive with GLONASS satellites.

GloTOP is compatible with NXP's existing ATOP solution, allowing for board replacement at a low cost, which is expected to be good news for the automotive industry.

In Russia, massive import tariffs are set to be imposed on vehicles that do not support the GLONASS satellite system, making this a critical issue for domestic manufacturers exporting telematics dashboards. As GLONASS has recently been adopted as a standard in India as well, automakers seeking to enter the Indian market can benefit from GloTOP.

GloTOP offers superior performance by integrating GLONASS, GPS, GSM, and NFC into a single package, enabling the simultaneous operation of various telematics applications such as congestion control, dashboard diagnostics, and multiple vehicle management functions. The focus is on simplification, allowing these applications to run concurrently without the need for additional modules. Additionally, support for the Java programming language facilitates easier application development.

Like other ATOP solutions, GloTOP guarantees the privacy of vehicle occupants by embedding hardware-level security into the product, which is unique in the telematics industry.

The 'emergency alert function' running on GloTOP is a feature similar to Europe's 'eCall', and it is scheduled to be mandatory in new vehicles in Russia starting in 2015. In the event of a serious accident, it automatically contacts nearby agencies with emergency data, such as location information, to expedite rescue time.
