ST's 32-bit Microcontroller Enhances Performance of Germany's E+L's Worker-Friendly Manufacturing Management Panel

Korea, July 19, 2011 – STMicroelectronics ( www.st.com ), a world-leading integrated semiconductor company and leading MCU supplier, announced that its advanced 32-bit MCU has been adopted by E+L (Erhardt+Leimer), a leading industrial automation equipment manufacturer, for next-generation worker-friendly touchscreen production line management panels.
As an interface from operators to manufacturing equipment, production line management panels play a critical role in maintaining productivity across all industries. Erhardt+Leimer’s innovative control panels, powered by ST’s high-performance STM32 microcontrollers, have set new standards for ease of use, improving the speed and efficiency of manufacturing processes, minimizing material waste, and maximizing output quality.

The RT4008 control panel, which comes with a 320mm x 240mm LCD color touchscreen, soft and hard keys, clear graphics, etc., is powered by ST's STM32 F-2 microcontroller. This MCU integrates the convenience of the industry-standard ARM® Cortex™-M3 processor, which offers superior processing performance, high efficiency, a rich peripheral set, and large program (Flash) and data (SRAM) memory.

Erhardt+Leimer's latest control panels primarily target web-guiding systems, which are essential components for factory automation in the paper, textile, and rubber manufacturing sectors, as well as conveyor and transport systems. Web-guiding systems ensure that processed raw materials are stored in designated locations and that accurate quantities are input into the production process, even at maximum processing speeds.
Comprehensive field testing of a manufacturing control panel powered by ST’s STM32 F-2 began in May 2011 for select customers of Erhardt + Leimer in China, Europe, and the United States.
