March 12, 2013 – Linear Technology Korea (CEO Hong Sa-gwak) announced the launch of a 14-bit 4.5Msps SAR (successive approximation register) ADC in a compact 8-pin TSOT23 package (product name: LTC2314-14). As a component for space-constrained applications, this product reduces size by up to 90% compared to competing solutions. The ultra-compact SAR ADC integrates a 2.048V/4.096V reference with a typical temperature coefficient of 7ppm/ºC and maximum guaranteed temperature coefficient of 20ppm/ºC into an 8mm2 footprint. The LTC2314-14 operates from 3V or 5V supplies and offers the lowest power consumption (18mA at 3V or 31mW at 5V) compared to commercially available competing products. With its serial SPI interface, compact footprint, and ultra-low power consumption, the LTC2314-14 is ideal for a wide range of portable and space-constrained applications including medical devices, communication systems, and battery-powered systems.

The 12-bit LTC2315-12 is also currently available and is pin- and software-compatible with the LTC2314-14, offering a high-speed sample rate of 5Msps. The LTC2314-14 and LTC2315-12 products are follow-on products in the 14-bit and 12-bit SAR ADC product family that provide sample rates in the range of 500ksps to 5Msps with 77.5dB SNR at 14-bit resolution and 73dB SNR at 12-bit resolution. Precise DC specifications show maximum INL and DNL values of ±3.75LSB and ±0.99LSB at 14-bit resolution and ±1.25LSB and ±0.99LSB respectively at 12-bit resolution. The LTC2314 SAR ADC product family features single-ended unipolar input, small 8-pin TSOT-23 package, integrated precision reference, 3V or 5V supply operation with low power consumption, and provides nap mode and standby mode for power optimization within the system.

The LTC2314-14 and LTC2315-12 are available in commercial, industrial, and automotive (-40oC ~ 125oC) temperature grades. The price of LTC2314-14 is $9.52 per unit based on 1,000-unit quantities, and the LTC2315-12 price is $5.17 per unit.
