Intersil Launches Dual PWM-Linear Controller to Provide High-Performance Single-Chip Solutions
March 13, 2013 – Intersil, a global leader in the design and production of high-performance analog, mixed-signal, and power semiconductors, announced today the launch of a new dual PWM + linear controller that will provide high-efficiency, high-flexibility power solutions for a wide range of broadband and networking applications.
The ISL6446A integrates the complete control, monitoring, and protection capabilities required for synchronous buck PWM controllers and linear controllers, and is characterized by the ability to easily convert voltages from 4.5V to 24V to three output voltages during design. Additionally, each output voltage can be controlled individually along with adjustable soft-start control. Because it enhances efficiency within the operating range of input and output loads, it is suitable for designing small DC/DC converters that output up to 25A of current across two channels.
The ISL6446A is designed for ATX power supplies, DSPs, ASICs, and FPGAs suitable for industrial and security networking applications and load regulation, and provides robust protection performance such as thermal insulation and overcurrent protection.
ISL6446A Characteristics and Specifications:
• Provides a wide input voltage range of 4.5V to 24V and an output voltage of 0.6V to 20V suitable for various applications.
• Adjustable from 100kHz to 2.5MHz, allowing for design optimization by selecting various types of components
• Voltage tracking function enables precise timing control required for multiple DC/DC rails
• Equipped with a sensor that prevents current loss, enabling cost savings without the need for a separate sensitivity resistor.
Price and Usage Information
ISL6446A is currently priced at $1.57 per unit in QSOP-24 packages, based on a quantity of 1,000. Additional information can be found at http://www.intersil.com/products/ZL8101 .
