Barometric pressure sensors have been widely used in smartphones and wearable devices to capture altitude data for indoor navigation and activity tracking. Recently, their applications have expanded, leading to a demand for pressure sensors that are waterproof, compact, and resistant to external changes.

On the 16th, ROHM announced that it has developed a compact, high-precision pressure sensor IC, 'BM1390GLV', with IPX8 waterproof performance for use in white goods, industrial equipment, and small IoT devices.

The new product features ROHM's proprietary temperature compensation function to enhance temperature characteristics. Its compact 2.0mm × 2.0mm × 1.0mm ceramic package also suppresses stress-induced characteristic fluctuations during board mounting. This enables precise pressure measurement in applications requiring waterproofing, something previously difficult to achieve, and in environments with significant temperature fluctuations.

The BM1390GLV compact, high-precision pressure sensor IC, which is the same size as the existing product, began mass production in August with a sample price of 700 yen (excluding tax). The new product and the "BM1390GLV-EVK-001" evaluation board are available for purchase from online component distribution sites.
