May 23, 2013, Seoul – Infineon Technologies (Korea Representative Director Seung-soo Lee) has launched the new EconoDUAL™ 3 IGBT module, which fully complies with automotive-grade quality standards. The new module is suitable for harsh applications such as commercial vehicles, construction vehicles, and agricultural machinery, where improved reliability is critical. Automotive-grade quality means the module provides significantly improved thermal cycling and thermal shock performance, and new soft diodes enhance EMI performance.

Featuring optimized design and assembly technology, the new automotive-grade EconoDUAL™ 3 module delivers thermal cycling performance more than three times higher and thermal shock performance improved by approximately tenfold compared to industry standards. Additionally, offering superior mechanical robustness, power cycling performance, and PressFit pin options, the new module is a highly reliable and cost-effective solution for a wide range of automotive applications.

The EconoDUAL™ 3 series provides the highest possible power density within the same module (up to 600A/1200V). The new module offers excellent switching performance, and copper wire bonding has lowered internal lead resistance. By using copper bonding technology and an improved DCB, the output power can be increased by up to 30 percent compared to the 450A product version.

In addition, for ease of handling and traceability in terms of logistics, all Infineon IGBT modules include a unique label. The newly released EconoDUAL™ 3 module integrates a DMX code chip to automatically recognize assembly components, providing even greater traceability.

Samples of the automotive-grade EconoDUAL™ 3 module products, FF400R12ME4A_B11 (400A/1200V) and FF600R12ME4A_B11 (600A/1200V), are scheduled to be supplied starting in the fourth quarter of 2013, with mass production scheduled for the second half of 2014.
