Synology is committed to satisfying its wireless router customers by offering VPN Plus licenses for free forever.

Synology announced on the 29th that it is switching its VPN server solution for Synology Router VPN Plus to a perpetual free license program.

“We first launched this program to support businesses around the world during the early stages of the COVID-19 crisis,” said Rebecca Lin, VPN Plus Product Manager at Synology Inc. “Fast-forward 18 months, and the trend is still there. Working from home is the new normal. We believe that users should be able to use all of the best VPN technologies Synology has to offer, completely free of charge. For this reason, we have decided to offer free, perpetual licenses for all features of Synology VPN Plus, our premier VPN server solution that previously required a fee,” he said.

Under the new program, new and existing owners of Synology’s RT1900ac, RT2600ac, and MR2200ac wireless routers can permanently activate Permanent Client VPN Access and Site-to-Site VPN licenses at no additional cost.

Meanwhile, VPN Plus allows you to host a powerful VPN server that is easy to set up and manage on your Synology Router.

It supports SSTP, OpenVPN, L2TP over IPSec, as well as Synology's own SSL VPN protocol and lightweight desktop client.

Web-based portal VPNs give users direct access to your company's intranet sites, and there's also an option to provide browser-based remote desktop access to employees.
