STMicroelectronics' innovative system-on-chip for multimedia monitors
Facilitating the introduction of high-resolution 3D and DisplayPort 1.2 interfaces
Highly integrated SoC product that takes multimedia to the next level
– Wide support for 2D/3D input formats and display resolutions while reducing system BOM
Korea, July 15, 2011 – STMicroelectronics ( www.st.com ), a world-leading integrated semiconductor company and a leader in the development and supply of System-on-Chip (SoC) ICs, has launched a family of highly integrated SoC products featuring a comprehensive range of video and audio input formats, superior video quality, and extended functionality. This new SoC family is designed for multi-functional premium monitors, public displays, all-in-one PCs, and high-performance laptops.

The new multimedia monitor SoCs, STDP9320, STDP9210, and STDP7320, integrate DisplayPort 1.2 receivers and transmitters with HDMI 1.4 receivers. In addition, STDP9320 and STDP9210 support 120Hz 3D Full HD, ultra-high resolution WQXGA* and WQHD* display panels, while STDP7320 supports 60Hz Full HD WUXGA* display panels. These new products incorporate industry-unique features such as multi-stream multi-monitor daisy-chain support, ST's proprietary active video window detection, simple user-friendly firmware updates, and ST's advanced Faroudja® imaging technology.
DisplayPort 1.2 receivers/transmitters support wide bandwidth data up to 21.6 Gbps and enable multi-stream transmission for "daisy-chained" and "tile" display monitor applications using only a single cable. HDMI 1.4 receivers support all essential 3D input formats defined in the HDMI 1.4 standard. In addition, monitor firmware upgrades can be conveniently performed using ST's patented EZ-FUN (Easy Firmware Upgrade Network) feature, which is accessible through a simplified On-Screen Display (OSD) menu.
This SoC family provides additional digital video and audio connectivity features, such as dual DVI (Digital Visual Interface), analog components, TTL, and SPDIF/I2S inputs. Panel interface options include Quad LVDS (Quad Low-Voltage Differential Signaling), iDP (Internal DisplayPort), or eDP (Embedded DisplayPort) formats.
These SoC products can achieve excellent image quality and usability by integrating unique features not commonly found in competing products, as follows.
• Active video window recognition function. It automatically recognizes and optimizes videos contained in internet multimedia content, and applies Faroudja Adaptive Contrast Control II, Active Color Management-3D, and Temporal Noise Reduction through the main settings of the panel.
• Achieves excellent flat field performance by correcting non-uniform brightness
• Color correction or customization with 6-axis independent color control
• Two different videos can be viewed simultaneously using the PiP / PaP (Picture in Picture / Picture and Picture) function. This is made possible by integrating two separate video processors.
