TI Korea (CEO Kent Chon, www.ti.com/ww/kr ) May 30, 2013 – TI (CEO Kent Chon) announced the release of the industry's fastest 4-channel, 14-bit analog-to-digital (ADC) clocking at 250 MSPS. The high-density ADS4449 enables receiver systems for ultra-small form factors, such as multiple input and multiple output (MIMO) base stations and munition guidance, or for high-density applications like active electrically scanned array (AESA) and other phased-array radars, to support up to 125 MHz of instantaneous bandwidth. System designers face the challenge of integrating more antennas and necessary receiver chains into remote radio units (RRUs) or AESA radar systems while improving dynamic range and noise levels. The ADS4449 is a high-performance 4-channel ADC operating at 250 MSPS, providing an additional 4 dB signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and 8 dB spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR) compared to existing 4-channel ADCs. In addition, four 14-bit 250MSPS ADCs are integrated into a single package to improve dynamic performance and signal bandwidth while maintaining a small form factor, and to reduce power consumption and costs.
Key Features and Advantages of the ADS4449
• Board Space Saving: Receiver system design supporting up to 125 MHz of instantaneous bandwidth in a miniaturized form factor by providing 4 channels in a single 10 mm x 10 mm package, 38% smaller than dual-channel ADCs.
• Outstanding Performance: Provides 69dB SNR and 86dBc SFDR performance at 250MSPS, enabling the design of 4-channel receivers with 3G, 4G, and MC-GSM capabilities for macro and distributed antenna base stations.
• Low power consumption: Reduces power consumption in high-density designs by consuming only 365mW per channel.
• Pin-compatible products: The ADS58H40 and ADS58H43 provide 11-bit 250 MSPS IF (intermediate frequency) and DPD (digital pre-distortion) feedback, offering up to 90 MHz of SNRBoost (3G+) bandwidth with an in-band SNR of 70.5 dB.
• 4-Channel Receiver Solution: When combined with TI's 4-channel LMH6522 DVGA (digital verifiable gain amplifier), 4-output TRF3765 wideband PLL/VCO, and LMK04800 clock jitter cleaner, the industry's smallest 4-channel IF receiver can be realized, enabling an additional 31dB of dynamic range and low phase noise within a miniaturized footprint.
Tools and Support
The ADS4449EVM evaluation module, capable of evaluating the ADS4449, is currently available for purchase at $599. The IBIS model is also available.
The ADS4449EVM can be used with the TSW1400EVM data capture card or the TSW1405EVM for pattern capture. In addition, TI provides the HSDC-SEK-10 high-speed data converter system evaluation kit, which includes low-noise signal, clock, and power sources to enable rapid evaluation.
