VMware took the top spot globally in the cloud systems and service management software segment with a 17.9% market share.


VMware (CEO Raghu Raghuram), a global leader in enterprise software, announced on the 1st that it ranked first in market share based on revenue in 2020 in the report 'Worldwide Cloud System and Service Management Software Market Shares, 2020: Growth Continues for Top Vendors' published by market analysis firm IDC.

VMware also held the top spot in this segment by revenue in 2019. In this report, IDC praised VMware for maintaining its leadership position in 2020 and for leading the way in adapting to evolving customer needs and new industry demands.

IDC assessed that VMware's acquisition of SaltStack has completed a more robust platform by adding SaltStack's event-driven configuration management capabilities to VMware's industry-leading vRealize Automation platform. VMware also gained access to SaltStack's SecOps capabilities, which automate security compliance and vulnerability remediation.

IDC particularly praised VMware's rapid integration of this VMware vRealize Automation SaltStack Config capability into the latest updates to VMware vRealize Automation and VMware vRealize Automation Cloud. Furthermore, the company noted that VMware continues its strategy of providing customers with choice by integrating alternative open-source configuration management tools.

IDC also highlighted CloudHealth by VMware, a leading multi-cloud solution that streamlines financial management and operations and strengthens security and compliance capabilities, in this report.
