June 7, 2013 – Linear Technology Korea (CEO Hong Sa-gwak) announced the launch of the LT3995, a 3A, 60V step-down switching regulator requiring only 2.7µA quiescent current. The LT3995's 4.3V to 60V input voltage range is ideal for automotive, commercial vehicle, aerospace electronics and industrial applications. The internal 4.7A switch delivers maximum 3A continuous output current at voltages as low as 1.2V. The LT3995's Burst Mode® operation provides ultra-low quiescent current, making it well-suited for applications such as automotive or industrial systems that require always-on operation and optimal battery life.

The LT3995's unique design guarantees a minimum dropout voltage of just 500mV when the input voltage drops below the programmed output voltage, making it ideal for applications where scenarios such as automotive cold cranking can occur. The switching frequency is user-programmable in the 200kHz to 2MHz range and can be synchronized in the 250kHz to 2MHz range, allowing designers to maximize efficiency while avoiding noise-sensitive critical frequency bands. The combination of a 16-pin thermally enhanced MSOP package and high switching frequency provides an extremely compact and thermally efficient footprint by minimizing external inductor and capacitor sizes.

The LT3995 integrates a high-efficiency 4.7A, 85mOhm switch, boost diode, oscillator, control and logic circuits on a single die. Low-ripple Burst Mode operation maintains output ripple below 15mVPK-PK while maintaining high efficiency at low output power. Advanced design techniques and high-voltage process technology achieve maximum 90% efficiency across a wide input voltage range, while the LT3995's current-mode topology ensures fast transient response and excellent loop stability. Additional features include a power good flag, soft-start function and thermal shutdown protection.

The LT3995EMSE is offered in a thermally enhanced MSOP-16 package at $3.55 per unit at 1,000-unit quantity. The LT3995IMSE is tested and guaranteed to operate at junction temperatures from -40°C to 125°C and is priced at $3.91 per unit at 1,000-unit quantity. The LT3995HMSE is tested and guaranteed to operate at junction temperatures from -40°C to 150°C and is priced at $4.16 per unit at 1,000-unit quantity. All versions are available now.
