Infineon launches high-performance LNA for GNSS to enhance smartphone user satisfaction

June 10, 2013, Seoul - Infineon Technologies (Korea CEO Lee Seung-soo) has launched the BGA825L6S, a highly cost-effective Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) for GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System). The BGA825L6S is characterized by extremely low noise figure, high linearity, high gain, and low current consumption across a wide supply voltage range from 3.6V to 1.5V. All these characteristics enhance sensitivity, provide superior immunity to out-of-band interference signals, and reduce filtering requirements, thereby lowering the total cost of GNSS receivers. Therefore, BGA825L6S is an excellent solution for GNSS LNA.
BGA825L6S employs Infineon's B7HF SiGe technology to provide a cost-effective and extremely compact solution in a TSLP-6-3 package. The noise figure of 0.6dB is the lowest among products currently available in the market. Noise figure directly affects system sensitivity and impacts TTFF (time-to-first-fix) and TTSF (time-to-subsequent-fix) performance, making it one of the most important parameters in GNSS systems. Therefore, an LNA with low noise figure enables faster GNSS signal acquisition, allowing the design of mobile phones with significantly higher end-user satisfaction.
BGA825L6S provides an optimized out-of-band IIP3 (input intercept point 3rd order) of +8dBm, significantly enhancing sensitivity compared to other solutions currently available. This is particularly important because GNSS receivers in today's smartphones coexist with transceivers used in GSM/EDGE/UMTS/LTE bands. These 3G/4G transceivers transmit at high power levels around +24dBm, and insufficient isolation can couple into the GNSS receiver, significantly degrading system sensitivity.
Furthermore, BGA825L6S provides a gain value of 17.0dB optimized for different reference design specifications. High linearity and optimized gain value ensure reliable GPS functionality free from cellular and Wi-Fi interference from adjacent bands when the LNA is integrated into the receiver chip.
