ST Microelectronics Launches TVS Diode Specialized in Repetitive Surge Protection
ST Microelectronics has introduced the STRVS series, a repetitive surge protection device. The new product offers comprehensive information for optimizing circuit protection while delivering excellent cost and energy efficiency.
Repetitive surges can overheat surge protection components, degrading power supply performance in solar inverters, smart meters, and mobile chargers. To address these issues, ST has optimized the clamping voltage at high temperatures for peak currents from 0 to 2A in this new product. This eliminates the need for engineers to intentionally use larger-sized surge protection components with TVS diodes. Additionally, PCB data according to temperature can be obtained, which was not provided by conventional TVS[1] diodes. The clamping voltage of STRVS is designed to function identically under any load, enabling safer operation compared to RC[2] snubber applications. ST's STRVS series effectively protects MOSFETs from various surges at frequencies between 50Hz and 200KHz.
This product is currently supplied in SMB surface mount packages and can be ordered at $0.11 per unit in quantities of 1,000 units.
