Supermicro has achieved top performance in Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI) benchmarks, proving that it is the fastest and most cost-effective solution for environments requiring virtual machines.

Super Micro Computer, Inc. (SMCI) today announced that it has set a world record in the latest TPCx-HCI (TPC Express Benchmark HCI) benchmark test, achieving 4,790.18 tpsHCI performance at $49.60 per tpsHCI.

The system used in the benchmark tests, developed in collaboration with AMD and VMware, uses AMD EPYC processor-based servers and VMware vSphere 7.0 Update 2, and demonstrates industry-leading performance for compute-intensive workloads in Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI) environments.

“The TPCx-HCI benchmark testing demonstrates our comprehensive IT solution for HCI workloads and represents the fastest and most cost-effective solution for environments requiring a large number of virtual machines,” said Raju Penumatcha, senior vice president and chief product officer at Supermicro. “Supermicro is collaborating with AMD and VMware to deliver this industry-leading solution. “This provides customers with a total solution based on the broadest portfolio of hyperconverged products, including BigTwin, FatTwin, and SuperBlade, all optimized to perform on the most demanding workloads,” he said.

Meanwhile, the cluster ran on four Supermicro WIO A+ servers (model AS –1114S-WN10RT), each equipped with one AMD EPYC 7713 processor and 1TB of main memory.

In total, the processors within the cluster had a total of 256 cores, which enabled simultaneous multithreading for a total of 512 threads.

Additionally, the virtual machine ran the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.7 operating system and the PostgreSQL 10.6 database management system (DBMS).

TPCx-HCI is a benchmark test developed by the Transaction Processing Performance Council (TPC) to measure HCI performance. It measures the performance of an HCI cluster with demanding database workloads.

It emphasizes virtualized hardware and software for converged storage, networking, and compute resources on HCI platforms.
