UAM Collaboration Seminar Discusses Private-Public Cooperation Strategies

SK Telecom and the Korea Transport Institute pledged private-public cooperation in UAM business, taking the lead in the future mobility sector.

SK Telecom (CEO and President Young Sang Yu) held a seminar on the 24th with the Korea Transport Institute (President Jae Hak Oh) at SKT's headquarters for UAM business cooperation.

At this seminar, SKT presented its UAM business preparation status and promotion plans, while the Korea Transport Institute presented the direction and application methods for UAM institutionalization in Korea and abroad. Both sides emphasized that before UAM services are activated, comprehensive strategies including market analysis and exploration of private-public collaboration business models are necessary.

Based on SKT's mobile communication operational capabilities and connected intelligence capabilities built on diverse ICT services, and the Korea Transport Institute's research and analysis capabilities, both agreed to create synergies in the UAM business sector.

SKT is currently promoting business to provide services including UAM reservation and boarding, ground and aircraft communication, internal infotainment, and platforms connecting ground transportation with UAM utilization.

Through Connected Intelligence, SKT is continuously working to connect ground and urban airspace to transcend spatial limitations, and to expand the connection targets from smartphones to UAM and autonomous vehicles.

The Korea Transport Institute is conducting research on UAM traffic demand, incurred costs, and appropriate traffic flow through economic analysis. Based on this information, it plans to identify whether the optimal service timing and vertiport locations are appropriate, and to derive service benefits such as reduced air pollution, traffic accidents, and vehicle noise.

SKT CEO Young Sang Yu stated, "Based on accumulated connected intelligence built on advanced digital infrastructure construction and management experience, we will collaborate with the Korea Transport Institute to establish ourselves as a UAM service provider optimized for future urban environments."

Korea Transport Institute President Jae Hak Oh remarked, "Future mobility including UAM will evolve into a platform business model where users can make diverse choices," and added, "Since cooperation between the public and private sectors is essential in the transition of future mobility, we plan to continue collaborating with SKT to lead in related fields."
