Fairchild Semiconductor, for LED lighting applications
Presenting a Total Solution ranging from Low Power to Mid and High Power
Simplify supply chain management with various total solutions;
Achieving high efficiency with value-added solutions
As the popularity of LED lighting applications increases, designers are facing various challenges to meet customer design requirements, ranging from design complexity and high efficiency to PCB size limitations and complex supply chain management.

Fairchild, a leading global supplier of high-performance power and mobile semiconductor solutions, provides a diverse range of total LED lighting solutions, from low to mid to high power, to address these challenges.
Fairchild solutions are characterized by integrating multiple components into a single IC using the most efficient technology for each power capacity, by providing a diverse range of topologies tailored to low, mid, and high power levels, respectively. These diverse topologies contribute to high power factor (PF), low total harmonic distortion (THD), extended LED product lifespan, and reduced replacement costs, while simultaneously enabling compliance with global energy regulations.
The high level of integration provided by this solution enables designers to address the challenges of limited board space, circuit simplification, and the reduction of the total number of components.
Designers are designing a wide range of applications, including downlights, tube lamps, flat panel lights, streetlights, industrial lighting, stage lighting, wall lights, and traffic lights, and all of these diverse products can be configured as Fairchild LED lighting total solutions. With these diverse solutions, designers will be able to simplify the supply chain.
Fairchild offers various key power conversion technologies tailored to the power of LED lighting, including the First-order Controlled Flyback (PSR Flyback), Single-Stage Flyback, PFC+Pseudo-Resonant Flyback (QR Flyback), and LLC Resonant Half-Bridge Solution.
PSR Flyback for Applications Below 20W: In this sector, the lamp and drive boards are typically integrated, leading to severe size limitations and cost pressures. To address this, Fairchild’s PSR utilizes TRUECURRENT™ technology and differentiated intellectual property to provide superior CV/CC dispersion without the need for secondary voltage and current control circuits. It is offered in a small 7SOP/DIP package that integrates a 1A 700V MOSFET with an IC. The product with the integrated MOSFET is suitable for applications up to 5W, while higher power levels can be controlled using an external MOSFET. This Fairchild PSR product enables designers to achieve high efficiency (over 80%), eliminate secondary feedback circuits, reduce component count, facilitate design, and minimize PCB footprint.
Single-stage flyback for 20–50W applications: This range requires high power factor, high efficiency, and a high level of reliability in a small space.
Fairchild provides CRM PFC PWM ICs for single-stage flyback topologies suitable for downlights in the 10-50W range and linear lamps in the 20-50W range. This solution enables high power factor, low total harmonic distortion, and high efficiency, while reducing costs and extending system lifespan by eliminating the use of input electrolytic capacitors.
PFC + QR Flyback Solution for Applications Below 100W: In this domain, designers face challenges from existing solutions such as a high component count, high costs, and low efficiency. To address this, Fairchild proposes a CRM PFC + QR flyback (pseudo-resonant) solution. The front-end PFC stage enables high power factor and low total harmonic distortion, while the rear-end pseudo-resonant stage ensures high efficiency and reliability. Fairchild offers not only standalone PFC and Flyback PWM ICs but also a solution where both are integrated into a single IC, enabling small footprint and low cost. This solution covers a wide range of applications, including flat panel lighting, streetlights, industrial lighting, stage lighting, wall lighting, and traffic lights.
To simplify LED lighting design, Fairchild LED solutions reduce the number of external components to minimize system board space, while providing solutions that increase reliability and efficiency and reduce replacement costs for users. Meanwhile, Fairchild assists designers in rapid design by providing technical support from system experts and design tools.
LLC Resonant Half-Bridge Converter Solution for Applications Below 400W: This sector requires a large number of components and multiple stages of power conversion, which can result in complex designs, high costs, low system efficiency, and low reliability. To address this, the LLC resonant half-bridge converter solution proposed by Fairchild integrates two MOSFETs and an IC into a single package. This integrated MOSFET features a Fast Recovery Body Diode, and the control IC incorporates a High Side Gate Driver. This solution operates up to 300KHz and provides a Pulse Skip function through frequency limiting under light load conditions. Offering high efficiency and reliability as well as the ability to simplify design with a small number of components, this LLC solution is suitable for streetlights, industrial lighting, stage lighting, wall lights, traffic lights, and more.
