Analog Devices Announces MEMS Wireless Vibration Sensing System for Remote Monitoring of Industrial Manufacturing Equipment Status
July 23, 2013 – Analog Devices ( www.analog.com , NASDAQ: ADI) , a global leader in the high-performance semiconductor industry for signal processing applications and radio frequency integrated circuits (RF ICs) , stated that ADI [ addresses] industrial system operators A wireless vibration detection system was announced that enables remote monitoring of the status of manufacturing equipment, improves system performance , and reduces maintenance costs .
This new networking system includes an ADIS16229 iSensor wireless vibration sensor node that combines 2- axis digital MEMS (Micro-electro mechanical systems) acceleration sensing with advanced frequency domain and time domain signal processing .
In addition, this sensing system also includes the ADIS16000 gateway , which can support up to six ADIS16229 sensors at once using ADI 's proprietary wireless protocol managed via an SPI interface compatible with most embedded processor platforms .
This wireless function enables remote monitoring of equipment installed in difficult or dangerous locations . In addition, vibration sensing and detection nodes can be easily installed in existing infrastructure and enable continuous monitoring, allowing for the evaluation of equipment performance and the prediction of maintenance schedules .
Bob Scannell, iSensor Business Development Manager at Analog Devices ' MEMS/ Sensor Group, pointed out , " The basic purpose of predictable maintenance is to reduce system downtime in the factory , but currently, it relies on periodic inspections that analyze equipment status and performance while the system is stopped . " He stated , " By using MEMS- based vibration sensors that continuously monitor machinery , turbines , pumps , conveyors , hydraulics , engines, and other equipment , plant operators can receive real-time statistical data on the performance of these equipment and process control feedback, thereby preventing economic damage caused by system shutdowns . "
