Domestic and foreign companies are planning and commercializing 5G specialized networks that will allow them to build 5G communication networks directly without going through the three major mobile carriers, so it is expected that 5G specialized networks will expand in earnest both domestically and internationally in the future.

Minister of Science and ICT Lim Hye-sook gave a keynote speech on the topic of “B5G (Beyond 5G) and 6G: Towards the Age of Digital Exploration” at the ministerial program titled “What’s next for the Mobile Sector” held at the MWC in Barcelona on the 1st.

At this event, Minister Lim Hye-sook mentioned the activation of 5G.

Minister Lim explained, “Various participants, including platform companies and joint organizations, are preparing to introduce new digital services tailored to each company and organization, such as autonomous robots and intelligent medical data management, using Ieum 5G.” He added, “By applying 5G to shipbuilding sites, we have enabled real-time control and monitoring of shipbuilding in a 3D modeled virtual space.”

5G specialized network operators can directly build 5G communication networks without going through the three major mobile carriers, and they can build network environments optimized for specific environments, purposes, and scopes, which has the advantage of being utilized in various fields such as smart cities, attracting attention from the industry.

Late last year, Naver Cloud was the first in Korea to be approved as a 5G specialized network frequency allocation and period operator. Following the reception, LG CNS completed the application for ‘5G mobile communication specialized network frequency allocation’ and ‘registration as a wireless business period telecommunications operator with circuit facilities’ on the 4th.

Naver Cloud plans to utilize a 5G specialized network for the robot service '5G Brainless Robot' at Naver's second headquarters, which is scheduled to open next year, and plans to expand its service robot (RaaS) business to various fields such as construction, hospitals, offices, and transportation in the future based on smart building, digital twin technology, and stable robot service operation.

Additionally, Naver Cloud signed a business agreement with Korea Airports Corporation last month for a 5G specialized network to build core infrastructure for smart airports.

The areas of cooperation are: △Verification of 5G specialized network technology, △Establishment of a dedicated communications network for airport facilities and passenger services based on 5G specialized networks, and △Areas of mutual interest related to 5G specialized networks.

Through this, the airport plans to implement smart offices, the Internet of Things (IoT), and 5G specialized network wireless infrastructure (mobile backhaul, small cells).

LG CNS recently successfully completed a 5G demonstration project targeting a manufacturing company, factory production facilities, and monitoring facilities, and announced that it will help make factories more intelligent with 'Factova,' an integrated smart factory platform equipped with new IT technologies such as AI, big data, and IoT, and provide a service that overcomes the limitations of the existing wireless communication environment by integrating 5G technology.

According to the Ministry of Science and ICT's "Science, Technology, and ICT Policy and Technology Trends," global companies overseas are also actively introducing commercialization of 5G specialized networks in the manufacturing sector.

American agricultural machinery company John Deere has commercialized its own 5G-specific network at two local factories.

Manufacturing companies in GermanyBased on this demand, we have built a specialized 5G network in collaboration with network equipment companies, telecommunication companies, etc.

Bosch has implemented automated inspection systems and autonomous transport systems using AI and cutting-edge cameras at its semiconductor factories, all on a 5G-specific network. Lufthansa Technik and Airbus are operating 5G campuses in aircraft hangars and are also using 5G for flight facility maintenance.

Japan's Fujitsu has introduced a 4.7GHz specialized 5G network for autonomous driving and automated loading systems, and a 28GHz network for real-time task management.

Meanwhile, Samsung SDS, Kakao Enterprise, Samsung Electronics, and Qualcomm Korea attended the meeting of demand and supply companies for the expansion of 5G, held by the Ministry of Science and ICT in January, but it is known that they are still reviewing whether to introduce it.
