It is projected that the share of edge computing in the data center sector will increase by 29% by 2026, and that edge computing will establish itself as a core component of advanced hybrid networks.

Vertiv, a company specializing in core digital infrastructure and continuity solutions, recently conducted a survey of data center professionals worldwide.

According to this, the share of edge computing in the entire data center industry is projected to increase by 29%, from 21% in 2022 to 27% in 2026.

In this survey, 34% of respondents, or one-third, answered that they are planning or in the process of building edge infrastructure.

One-quarter said they have already built new edge sites for specific purposes, and 41% said they are operating legacy edge sites.

While all activity at the edge is impressive, respondents predicted that core sites would also increase by 150% and activity on the cloud would increase as well.

According to this survey, the proportion of IT resources deployed in the public cloud is expected to increase from the current 19% to 25% in 2026.

Speed and latency are key factors in future computing. The only solution to meet these demands is to deploy the edge.”
