August 21, 2013 – Linear Technology Korea (CEO Hong Sa-kwak) announced the launch of the LTC3245, a 250mA multifunctional high-voltage buck-boost charge pump with high reliability in MP grade and a wide temperature range. The MP grade offers an operating junction temperature range of -55°C to +150°C. The LTC3245 employs fractional conversion technology using switched-capacitor architecture to maintain regulation across a wide input voltage range of 2.7V to 38V, generating fixed output voltages of 3.3V, 5V, or adjustable 2.5V to 5V. Due to varying input voltage and load conditions, the internal circuit automatically selects the optimal conversion ratio (2:1, 1:1, or 1:2) based on input voltage and load conditions for maximum conversion efficiency. With its low operating current (18μA at no load, 4μA at shutdown) and minimal external component count (only three small capacitors required; no inductor needed), the LTC3245 is ideal for low-power, space-constrained automotive/applications such as ECU/CAN transceiver supplies, industrial housekeeping supplies, and efficient low-power 12V to 5V output conversion.

The LTC3245's proprietary fixed-frequency architecture reduces switching edge rates, providing lower conducted and radiated noise compared to traditional switching regulators. The device offers pin-selectable Burst Mode® operation, allowing users to trade off improved efficiency and lower no-load current against lower output ripple. Additional features include ceramic capacitor compatibility requiring fewer external components, a soft-start circuit preventing excessive inrush current during startup, and short-circuit and thermal protection.
