August 22, 2013 – Linear Technology Korea (CEO Hong Sa-kwak) announced the launch of a 2A µModule® regulator (product name: LTM8050) protected against input surge up to 60V. This product can be configured as a step-down or inverting converter (for example, for negative output). The LTM8050, which provides input voltage protection up to 60V, can be safely used in applications where the main power bus is sensitive to high voltage spikes or voltage fluctuations. Examples of such applications include automotive, aerospace, factory automation, heavy equipment, mass transit, robotics, and industrial systems.

The operating input voltage range of the LTM8050 is 3.6V to 58V (60Vmax), and the output can be adjusted with a single resistor in the range of 0.8V to 24V. When configured as an inverter, the output can be adjusted from -0.8V to -24V. The LTM8050 includes an inductor, DC/DC regulator, power FET, and compensation circuit, all of which are integrated into a single 9 x 15 x 4.92mm BGA package.

To increase load current beyond 2A, up to four LTM8050s can share current to deliver up to 8A. For systems sensitive to switching regulator noise outside of the band operation, the switching frequency of the LTM8050 can be adjusted over a wide range from 100kHz to 2.4MHz with an external resistor. The LTM8050 is capable of operating in two temperature ranges: -40ºC to 125ºC and -55ºC to 125ºC. Pricing starts at $14 per unit based on quantities of 1,000.
