August 28, 2013, Seoul - Infineon Technologies (Korea CEO Lee Seung-soo) has launched a new 4.5kV IHV module that achieves reliability and robustness with low conduction loss and switching loss while delivering superior power density. With high isolation 6.5kV housing, it provides exceptional protection performance through larger creepage and clearance distances, enabling use in harsh environments. With these further optimized thermal characteristics, the new IHV module is well-suited for use in railway vehicle applications.

Björn Rentemeister, marketing manager for Infineon's Industrial Power Control division, stated, "Infineon's new high-power products are aimed at the global railway vehicle market. As demand for mobility continues to increase, railway market demand worldwide is expected to grow steadily. Infineon's IHV A module is manufactured in standard housing used anywhere in the world, enabling customers to implement quickly and easily in both new and existing designs."

The module product, now in supply, is based on IGBT 3 using trench field stop technology and field stop diodes. By adopting a base plate made of aluminum-silicon carbide material with low expansion coefficient and excellent thermal conductivity, low conduction loss and switching loss are guaranteed, thereby achieving high energy efficiency and robustness. The 4.5kV IHV module is designed with current ratings ranging from 400A to 1,200A and features improved DC stability. It is available in an extended temperature range from -50°C to 125°C and maintains perfect blocking performance even below 0°C.

The new IHV module is now in supply, and with the addition of this product, Infineon has completed a comprehensive product portfolio consisting of modules in 3.3kV, 4.5kV, and 6.5kV voltage classes.
