Korea- Sweden Hydrogen Partnership Event Held
Exchanges such as investment attraction IR, pitching to foreign investment companies, etc.

The foundation has been laid for achieving the clean energy transition goals, including eco-friendly vehicles, discussed between the leaders of Korea and Sweden in 2019, and for promoting cooperation in the hydrogen industry between the two countries.

On the 6th, the Hydrogen Convergence Alliance (H2KOREA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Swedish Hydrogen Association Vätgas Sverige to strengthen hydrogen cooperation between the two countries at the 'Korea-Sweden Hydrogen Partnership Event' held online.

Through the signing of the MoU, the two organizations agreed to cooperate for the early implementation of the hydrogen economy and to actively cooperate in the following areas: △ regular exchanges and hosting events, △ supporting private sector cooperation and exchanges, △ establishing an international cooperation network, and △ discovering and supporting joint hydrogen policies.

In addition to signing the MoU, the Swedish Hydrogen Association also signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) for the launch of the Global Hydrogen Industry Association Alliance (GHIAA), cooperating to support the revitalization of the global private hydrogen industry. The official launch ceremony of GHIAA is scheduled to be held in Seoul on May 25, and hydrogen associations representing the private hydrogen industry from 17 countries, including the Swedish Hydrogen Association, are expected to participate.

The Global Hydrogen Industry Hydrogen Association Alliance (GHIAA) is a private-sector-led international hydrogen industry support organization comprised of hydrogen and fuel cell associations from 17 countries, including Korea, the European Union, the United States, Canada, and Sweden.

H2KOREA Chairman Moon Jae-do said, “This business agreement is significant in that it lays the foundation for expanding the clean energy transition between our two countries, which has been discussed at the government level, to the private sector,” adding, “It will serve as a link to promote the hydrogen partnership between the two countries and strengthen hydrogen cooperation between the two countries.”

Andes Lundell, president of the Swedish Hydrogen Association, said, “As leaders in decarbonization in the industrial and transport sectors, our two countries share common interests. We hope that through the exchange of best practices and experiences, we can contribute to the global competitiveness of companies in both countries and achieve fusion between the public and private sectors in new industries.”

In the session that followed, the two countries exchanged information on hydrogen industry policy trends, and the KOTRA Stockholm Trade Center provided domestic information related to attracting domestic investment and held an investment briefing session for foreign-invested companies.

At this event, H2KOREA Center Director Kwon Nak-hyun and Swedish Hydrogen Industry Association CEO Björn Aronson presented the current status of the hydrogen economy in both countries. In the IR session that followed, Ulsan Metropolitan City, Ulsan Free Economic Zone Authority, Gwangyang Bay Free Zone Authority, and POSCO introduced the Korean hydrogen sector.

In the subsequent overseas company pitching session, the Gävleborg County explained the hydrogen industry opportunities in the Gävleborg County, and Swedish companies ABB, Sandvik, and H2 Green Steel presented the hydrogen businesses they are pursuing.sp;

Taking this opportunity, Korea plans to support foreign companies in attracting investment and establishing a presence in Korea, and promote private-sector exchanges that leverage both countries' strengths. In particular, the two countries plan to explore potential cooperation opportunities in the full-cycle development of the hydrogen industry, as well as in mobility (charging stations, fuel cells, infrastructure) and green steel.
