Schneider Electric argued that open-based digital integrated operations are essential for next-generation industrial automation.

Schneider Electric held a media conference on the 7th at COEX, where the 2022 Smart Factory & Automation Industry Exhibition is being held from April 6 to 8, under the theme of "Digital Innovation Strategies to Lead the Future of Industrial Automation."

This conference consisted of △Digital innovation strategies to lead the future of industrial automation (Seo Sang-hoon, Head of Schneider Automation Business Unit) △IEC 61499 standard-based EcoStruxure Automation Expert △Booth tour sessions.

Director Seo Sang-hoon emphasized that digital transformation is essential in industrial settings and highlighted the integration of openness-based automation technologies to achieve this.

Director Seo stated that demands regarding the importance of remote management in industrial sites, resilience, sustainability, cost reduction through efficiency, and carbon neutrality, including COVID-19, are accelerating digital transformation.

Schneider Electric emphasizes four types of integration: integration of 'power' and 'process' to realize sustainability, integration from endpoint to cloud, integration across design, build, operation, and maintenance, and a transition to enterprise-level integrated management.

Schneider Electric emphasized that the introduction of smart factories should be done in stages, stating that the core of a smart factory is to derive value by strengthening the capabilities of the organization and employees and ensuring process and energy efficiency, rather than simple automation.

Director Seo emphasized that Schneider is the only partner pursuing ESG management in the fields of energy management and industrial automation.

■ IEC61499-based Universal Automation Expert (EAE), Emphasizing Open Environment

IEC 61499 is a standard for modeling distributed control systems, unlike IEC 61131, which is a standard for defining existing programming languages.

It was explained that while previously one had to select a specific brand of PLC to use and use dedicated programming software, IEC61499 separates hardware and software, allowing applications to be created, simulated, and tested before selecting hardware.

Manager Kim Gun stated that by introducing the IEC61499-based Universal Automation Expert, all manufacturers can move away from a closed environment and provide open operation, enabling them to enjoy the benefits of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Meanwhile, Schneider Electric stated that it is collaborating with global security companies regarding product network security to achieve network security.

■ 2022 Smart Factory & Automation Exhibition… OT and IT Products Showcased at Booths

Schneider Electric is showcasing solutions in six categories at COEX, where the 2022 Smart Factory & Automation Industry Exhibition is being held from the 4th to the 6th.

These include Modicon PAC and AVEVA software integration solutions, a new Pro-face HMI lineup, industrial PCs & Lite SCADA for digital transformation, smart fire monitoring and prevention platforms, 3-phase UPS ensuring high efficiency and high power availability, intelligent monitoring and power control centers, and digital pure air-insulated high-voltage switchboards.

The Schneider Electric booth will be located in Hall C on the 3rd floor of COEX, and on the afternoon of the 7th, a seminar will be held to present optimized solutions for the intelligentization of smart factory manufacturing processes and to introduce implementation demonstration cases.
