[Editor’s Note] OEMs building next-generation smart logistics vehicles and production robots must perform a variety of tasks when designing new controllers. They must integrate various sensors for raw data collection, implement data preprocessing and artificial intelligence (AI) for data analysis and improvement, and design controller logic for autonomous vehicle movement and operation. congatec, a leader in embedded and edge computing technology, participated in the 2022 Smart Factory & Automation Industry Exhibition held at COEX in Samseong-dong from April 6 to 8 as a booth exhibitor, introducing a new computer-on-module for 5G-connected smart factories and industrial automation. Our magazine met with Kim Yun-seon, CEO of Congatec, to hear about Congatec products and Congatec Korea’s aspirations.

■ Please introduce Kongatec.

Founded in 2004, congatec is a German-based developer, manufacturer and supplier of industrial PC modules.

The fields in which industrial PC modules can be used are extremely diverse and congatec products are also used in all industrial fields.

Kongatec has many customers in Korea, and business is progressing positively with these customers in many aspects, including the excellence, convenience, and price of the products.

■ What motivated you to participate in the 2022 Automation World exhibition and what products are you showcasing?

With the introduction of smart factories, factory management and production are becoming automated.

Congatec participated in this year's COEX Automation World exhibition to showcase its products used in various industries to help revive this trend.

Although our presence in Korea is not yet large, we plan to actively participate in such exhibitions to promote and communicate with major clients and to introduce Congatec to exhibition participants.

Congatec receives supplies from CPU suppliers such as Intel, AMD, and NXP and manufactures open products that conform to the open standard, i.e. the PICMG standard. The names of the products vary depending on the size, capacity, and interface used.

At this event, congatec will present its COM-HPC Server-on-Modules based on Intel Xeon D processors for industrial edge servers and 5G campus network equipment, COM-HPC Client and COM Express modules based on 12th Gen Intel Core processors for smart vehicle/robot gateways and vehicle/robot network controllers, and real-time processing cores for industrial edge computing applications.Introducing a pico-ITX single board computer (SBC) based on Celeron, Pentium, and Atom processors for fishing.

■ Congatec’s future plans as an embedded powerhouse

The embedded market is a field with growth potential, given its current market value and size.

Kongatec plans to focus on expanding its capabilities in various industries, including smart factories and factory automation, robotics, military, medical, and gaming.

■ Lastly, please say a word to your readers.

Although Kongatec was founded in 2004, Kongatec Korea entered the Korean market in earnest in 2021.

Our country is a major market in the world, and the purpose of establishing a branch in Korea is to increase our presence and grow our business in Korea.

Based on these goals, we will actively promote our products to increase customer intimacy in the future and help our customers' business success.
