September 6, 2013 – Linear Technology Korea (CEO Hong Sa-kwak) announced the release of a high-power density 1A LDO, a Class H product of the wide-temperature range version of the LT1965. This IC features a dropout voltage of just 300mV at full load, a wide VIN range of 1.8V to 20V, and adjustable output capabilities of 1.2V to 19.5V. Low output noise of only 40µVRMS reduces noise in instrument, RF, DSP, and logic power systems, and can also be applied to the downstream of switching power supplies. Output tolerance is perfectly controlled within ±3% across all line, load, and temperature conditions. With a low standby current consuming 500µA during operation and less than 1µA during shutdown, this device offers an excellent choice for applications requiring high output drive performance with low current consumption.

The LT1965 regulator allows for the optimization of stability and transient response with low ESR and small ceramic output capacitors of approximately 10µF. These small external capacitors can be used without the series resistors that are essential in other regulators in some cases. Internal protection circuitry includes reverse battery protection, no reverse current, current limiting with foldback function, and thermal limiting. For applications with a high voltage ratio between input and output, the LT1965 provides a very compact and thermally efficient solution.

The LT1965 H rating is rated for operating junction temperatures of -40°C to +150°C and is available in a thermal profile (0.75mm) 8-pin DFN (3mm x 3mm) package, a surface-mount DD-Pak power package, and a TO-220 power package.
