Expanding the E-Eum 5G demonstration project and revitalizing the E-Eum 5G ecosystem.

The National Radio Research Agency (President Seong-il Seo) of the Ministry of Science and ICT has issued radio certificates for dedicated 5G equipment and modules, laying the foundation for providing 5G services.

The Ministry of Science and ICT's Radio Research Institute announced that it has issued a new certificate of conformity assessment for broadcasting and communications equipment (hereinafter referred to as radio certification) for base stations and wireless modules to be used in 5G.

'Radio certification' is a system in which manufacturers, sellers, and importers of electronic products certify that the products comply with the technical standards under the Radio Waves Act before selling them in order to prevent interference with radio waves and protect electronic devices and the human body from electromagnetic waves.

The Ministry of Science and ICT has been allocating frequencies to 5G service providers (Naver Cloud, LG CNS) since December of last year and has completed registration as a basic telecommunications business, thereby laying the foundation for convergence services of 5G mobile communication technology.

In particular, this year, the company announced plans to expand the 5G demonstration project to promote early launches of base stations and wireless modules, and expand policy support to vitalize the 5G ecosystem by linking cooperation between companies that build parts, equipment, solutions, and networks.

Currently, a total of six products have been issued radio certification related to 5G by the Korea Radio Research Institute, including indoor and outdoor base stations and wireless modules using the 28 GHz band.

28 GHz this year It is expected that various domestically produced wireless modules utilizing the band and various base stations and terminals in the 4.7 GHz band will receive or apply for radio wave certification, and various 5G equipment that have completed radio wave certification are expected to be used in the demonstration project (May 2022~) of the "5G+ Convergence Service Project" that the Ministry of Science and ICT is leading.

Jeong Sam-yeong, director of the Radio Testing and Certification Center at the National Radio Research Agency, said, “Starting with this radio certification, we expect that various products in artificial intelligence (AI) and virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) will be developed and supplied without a hitch, laying the foundation for the 5G convergence service.”
