Analog Devices Launches Ultra-Low Noise RF LDO Regulator to Significantly Reduce Phase Noise in Broadband Communication Systems

November 7, 2013 – Analog Devices ( www.analog.com , NASDAQ: ADI), a global leader in high-performance semiconductors for signal processing applications, today released a low-dropout (LDO) regulator for radio frequency (RF) signal devices. The ADM7150/1, with an operating voltage range of 4.5 to 16 V, supports up to 800 mA of output current and 1.5 to 5.0 V of output voltage. The released LDO regulator achieves an output noise spectral density (NSD) of 1.4 nV/rt Hz from 10 kHz to 1 MHz, significantly reducing voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) phase noise in point-to-point (P2P) microwave radio, satellite communications, military electronics, and other broadband applications. In addition, the low-frequency 1/f noise (8 nV/rt Hz at 100 Hz) of the precision analog front-end (AFE) measurement system can also be significantly reduced through the user-adjustable CBYP.
In addition to ultra-low noise characteristics, the ADM7150/1 utilizes a 10µF ceramic output capacitor to achieve linear transient response of 0.01%/V and load transient response of 0.4%/A, respectively. Furthermore, the new LDO regulator boasts high PSRR (power-supply rejection ratio) performance of over 90dB from 1kHz to 100kHz and over 60dB at 1MHz. Accordingly, by effectively filtering the ripple of the DC-DC switching regulator, the size of the separate discrete filtering component typically required can be minimized, thereby reducing the board area.
