Development of a Future Technology Trend Report Reflecting 6G Policy and Demand

Presenting future technology trends such as AI, security , and convergence services.

South Korea has completed the development of a report on future 6G technology trends, securing global leadership in 6G.

The Ministry of Science and ICT announced that Korea completed the development of a '6G Future Technology Trend Report' on 6G vision and future technology research at the 41st International Telecommunication Union Working Group on Mobile Communications (ITU-R WP5D) meeting held in Geneva, Switzerland from the 13th to the 24th.

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has presented the 6G Vision, a standardization blueprint containing 6G target services, key performance indicators, and standardization work schedules, and has been promoting the development of 6G international standards accordingly.

Our country is researching 6G future technology trends. As a co-chair of the working group, it is presenting future technology trends to reflect △AI development △improvement of system reliability and sustainability △strengthening security △emergence of various convergence services through a report that reflects the domestic 6G research and development strategy and new technology demand of industry, academia, and research institutes. In particular, various 6G service scenarios such as AI, sensing-communication cooperation-based services are under discussion.

The report includes advanced wireless access technologies (AI convergence communication, sensing convergence communication, full-duplex communication, etc.) and wireless network technologies (digital twin support, expanded coverage, communication-computing convergence, etc.) that are expected to be reflected in the 6G vision that defines future 6G target services and required performance.

In addition, during the conference, as the chair of the 6G Vision Group, our country hosted a workshop to promote the development of the 6G vision, introduced the progress of the International Telecommunication Union's 6G vision work, presented the direction of 6G vision development and research to the 193 member countries of the International Telecommunication Union and external organizations, and encouraged international cooperation, it said.

Kim Jeong-sam, Director General of the Ministry of Science and ICT's Information Security Network Policy Bureau, said, "Our country is securing global leadership in 6G by leading the International Telecommunication Union's discussions on future technologies and 6G visions," and emphasized, "We will spare no support for international standardization so that leading the 6G vision can lead to securing pre-6G technologies and securing 6G standards."
