The government and the semiconductor industry are joining hands to begin training specialized personnel for system semiconductor design.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (Minister Lee Chang-yang) and the Semiconductor Industry Association (Chairman Kwak No-jeong) held an induction ceremony for the 'Employment-Linked System Semiconductor Design Specialized Training' course at the System Semiconductor Design Support Center on the 27th, and decided to cultivate design experts desired by companies.

Currently, semiconductor companies cite 'human resource shortage' as their biggest challenge, and as part of a countermeasure plan, they plan to operate a practical training course for prospective graduates.

In particular, by providing training to cultivate specialized personnel in the field of system semiconductor design, which is lacking in Korea, it is expected to contribute to not only supplementing human resources in companies but also enhancing domestic industrial competitiveness.

The employment-linked design specialized training program was first implemented last year, with 41 trainees from 19 universities selected, and over 80% of the graduates were hired by related domestic companies.

This year's training program is expected to attract 44 students, more than last year's, and is expected to serve as an opportunity to alleviate the concentration of semiconductor talent in the metropolitan area, as many students from local universities as well as universities in the metropolitan area will participate.r />
The course will be delivered by a faculty of current engineers with over 20 years of experience, with practical training that can be applied immediately in the field. Upon completion of the course, the course will also lead to employment opportunities at related companies.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Semiconductor Association are considering expanding this training program to be held twice a year starting this year. In addition, they plan to cultivate talent in fields needed by the industry through training of system semiconductor design personnel (260 people) and field personnel for semiconductor infrastructure utilization (1,500 people), which are currently being prepared at the Semiconductor Design Education Center starting this year.

Choi Woo-seok, director of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, who attended the inauguration ceremony, said, “In order to resolve the chronic labor shortage, which is the industry’s number one problem, we plan to intensively train specialized personnel in various fields, such as system semiconductor design and semiconductor-related small and medium-sized business managers.”

Lee Chang-han, Vice Chairman of the Semiconductor Association, also stated, “The training program starting today is a new model of specialized training program that the association and companies are promoting with the same goal in mind, and that our government supports.”
