Organizational restructuring to accelerate company-wide smart factory transition
Establishing a new organization, including a North American production headquarters, and focusing on building a battery mass production system.

LG Energy Solution Vice Chairman Kwon Young-soo will be traveling to Europe to inspect the progress of the company's smart factory initiative at its Polish production plant and discuss ways to expand technological cooperation with key partners.

In addition, LG Energy Solution implemented organizational restructuring to accelerate the company-wide transition to smart factories, including the establishment of a North American production headquarters.

LG Energy Solution announced on the 3rd that Vice Chairman Kwon will be going on a 3-night, 5-day business trip to Europe, where he will visit the Wroclaw, Poland plant and Siemens, a key partner in smart factories.

This is Vice Chairman Kwon's first visit to Europe since taking office last year. He previously visited key local production plants in Michigan and Ohio in May, where he reviewed the status of smart factories and met with key customers, including GM, to discuss cooperation plans.

The LG Energy Solution Poland plant, which I will visit during my business trip, is the world's largest battery production plant (70 GWh per year) and is a key base for responding to the demand of the European electric vehicle market. Recently, we have been actively building smart factories to expand production capacity and improve efficiency.

An LG Energy Solution official said, “Vice Chairman Kwon plans to intensively review the progress of our smart factory initiatives during his short three-night, five-day business trip to ensure that we can supply products with the best quality and price competitiveness to our major customers in a timely manner.”

In November of last year, LG Energy Solution signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Siemens of Germany to digitalize and improve efficiency in battery manufacturing technology.

Meanwhile, LG Energy Solution announced a reorganization and personnel transfer on the 1st of this month to operate a company-wide smart factory and stabilize its North American plant.

First, to stabilize production in North America, a new North American production headquarters will be established under the Automotive Battery Division. Choi Seok-won, Managing Director and Head of the Polish subsidiary, will oversee North American production. A production support organization will also be established within the division to handle tasks such as establishing smart factories and rapidly stabilizing operating rates, quality, and yields.
