Defense company Wave Electronics is expanding its defense business by acquiring a defense power supply specialist.


Wave Electronics announced on July 8 that it had completed the acquisition of military power supply specialist Microtech.

Microtech is a company that develops and produces power supplies used in various military weapons and equipment, such as radars and control systems, and supplies them to leading domestic defense companies. In 2021, it recorded sales of KRW 16.1 billion and operating profit of KRW 1.1 billion.

This acquisition of Microtech is expected to further expand the scale of Wave Electronics' defense business.

Wave Electronics entered the defense business in 2015 by acquiring the defense division of MTI, which was developing seekers for guided weapons.

Wave Electronics' digital signal processing technology was applied to the development of a guided weapon seeker, resulting in the development of a guided weapon seeker with superior technology at a low cost.

Wave Electronics' defense business sales started at KRW 2.7 billion in 2015 and grew to KRW 14.3 billion in 2021.

Wave Electronics Vice President Park Sung-gil, who is taking office as CEO of Microtech, expressed his expectations for the completion of the acquisition of Microtech, saying, “The scale and profits of the business will further expand through synergy effects from collaboration across the two companies’ R&D, sales, and production activities.”
