NXP Launches CAN Transceiver with Enhanced Automotive Network Performance
△ ECU Solution: Improve vehicle performance and efficiency with high-speed dual CAN transceivers
Suitable for eco-friendly automotive applications ∙∙∙ Provides low power and high flexibility

July 14, 2011, Seoul – NXP Semiconductors (NASDAQ: NXPI) announced today the launch of the TJA1048, a next-generation high-speed dual-CAN transceiver. Enabling simpler and more efficient in-vehicle network designs, the TJA1048 is an Electronic Control Unit (ECU) solution that optimizes performance and space. This product is used in safe, comfortable, and environmentally friendly automotive applications that require one or more high-speed CAN (HS-CAN) communication interfaces.

The TJA1048 ECU solution is ideal for engine, body control, and gateway applications that utilize multiple HS-CAN networks and require a low-power mode that operates over the bus. The TJA1048 is pin-top-in compatible with the TJA1042/3, a single HS-CAN transceiver. It also offers high flexibility when building modular systems, regardless of whether a single or dual HS-CAN node is used.

Complementing NXP’s high-performance mixed-signal strategy, the TJA1048 is suitable for the automotive market requiring space- and cost-effective solutions, thanks to its excellent Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) and Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) performance. By integrating two independent 3rd generation HS-CAN transceivers into a single package and sharing power supply and heat dissipation functions, the TJA1048 is an energy-efficient and space-efficient solution with very low power consumption compared to two single transceivers.

Toni Versluijs, General Manager of CAN-LIN Transceivers at NXP Semiconductors, stated, “As automotive electronics become increasingly complex, the automotive industry faces a new challenge of reducing energy consumption while maintaining highly reliable in-vehicle communication standards,” adding, “NXP’s latest high-speed dual CAN transceivers are the result of collaboration with customers to provide high-performance, cost-effective, and future-proof in-vehicle network technology.”

The features of the TJA1048 Dual HS-CAN Transceiver are as follows.
• Two TJA1042/3 HS-CAN transceivers integrated into a single package
• Ultra-low power standby mode where both channels reactivate as buses
• Direct connection from the interface to the microcontroller with a supply voltage of 3V to 5V
• Latest low-power receiver with ISO 11898-5 certification that prevents unintended job recovery

The transceiver, fully compliant with ISO 11898-2 and ISO 11898-5, has obtained AEC (Automotive Electronics Council) Q100 standard certification and is suitable for automotive applications. Manufactured using the latest SOI (Silicon on Insulator) technology, the TJA1048 meets the requirements of modern OEMs with virtually no electromagnetic interference or pollution. Meanwhile, the bus pins are protected against transients in automotive environments.

With over 30 products, NXP boasts the industry's broadest portfolio of automotive CAN/LIN transceivers and supplies millions of units weekly to more than 100 customers. Based on this solid customer base and mass production capabilities, continuous supply is possible, and NXP's long-term vision for productivity and quality improvement ensures reliable service to customers.
