NI, Yonsei University, and Nubicom Join Hands to Establish 6G Open Hub

Automation solution developer NI (CEO Eric Starkloff), Yonsei University (President Seo Seung-hwan), and Nubicom (CEO Shin Dong-man) have joined hands to foster future talent based on convergence of 6G and artificial intelligence.
NI announced on the 8th that it will establish a '6G Open Hub' together with Yonsei University and Nubicom.
Yonsei University, together with NI, has showcased key mobile communication technologies on the international stage, including a real-time full-duplex system, a millimeter-wave lens antenna system, and a wireless haptic system.
Building on its achievements, NI has decided to support the establishment of the 6G Open Hub at Yonsei University as a representative research center in the Asia-Pacific region.
To this end, NI plans to donate approximately 5 billion won worth of in-kind products to Yonsei University. Nubicom, NI's official Korean distributor, will be responsible for supplying the donated products and all other products needed for the 6G Open Hub.
Established in Korea for the first time, the 6G Open Hub will be led by Yonsei University, along with Hanyang University, POSTECH, and Sensorview, a leading 5G/6G components company. International participants include Tsinghua University in China and SUTD University in Singapore. In the future, we plan to include universities in the Asia-Pacific region as well as Europe and the Americas.
Professor Chan-Byeong Chae of Yonsei University will oversee the 6G Open Hub. The 6G Open Hub will leverage each university's strengths and collaborate by sharing development expertise. Professor Chae's research team has won six Best Paper Awards and Best Demo Awards from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)'s most prestigious journals and conferences. Professor Chae was also named an IEEE Fellow in 2020.
Yonsei University President Seo Seung-hwan stated, "Communication networks are a key technology for companies to provide services based on cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and autonomous driving. The 6G Open Hub will significantly strengthen our university's technological and educational capabilities. The university will also fully support the development of convergent talent based on 6G and artificial intelligence."
NI Vice President Joseph Soo, who attended the MOU signing ceremony, said, “6G, a future industry, is a key technology that will determine future competitiveness along with artificial intelligence.” He added, “In order to prepare for this future society, active industry-academia cooperation that is different from what we have now is necessary. “We will continue to support the development of talent that will contribute to future industries through the 6G Open Hub being established at Yonsei University,” he said.
Shin Dong-man, CEO of Nubicom, who will be in charge of supplying all equipment and providing technical support necessary for the smooth operation of the 6G Open Hub, said, “We will do our best to quickly supply 6G solutions linked with NI based on our customer support know-how and technological prowess that have been built up over a long period of time.” He added, “We will do our best to support industry-academia cooperation through the 6G Open Hub and complete national preliminary tasks.”

SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK Telecom announced that it applied an AI-based network operation system for the first time at a large-scale K-pop concert held in the Gwanghwamun area of Seoul on March 21st, managing communication quality throughout the event. Mobile data usage during the three hours before and after the concert reached 12.15TB, approximately doubling compared to the same time slot the previous weekend. SK Telecom monitored traffic using the AI system 'A-One' in five-minute and 50-meter units to respond to potential overload situations, while also operating temporary communication facilities and on-site personnel in parallel. This case is interpreted as confirmation of the practical applicability of AI-based autonomous network operation in an environment where demand from dense events and foreign users increases simultaneously.

ETRI Develops 200Gbps Photodetector… Initiates Localization of Optical Receivers for AI Data Centers
The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) has developed a photodetector device that processes optical signals of approximately 200Gbps per channel for the first time in Korea. This device is a component that converts optical signals into electrical signals and determines the reception performance of AI data centers and 5G/6G communication networks. ETRI achieved bandwidth of 70GHz or higher and optical responsivity of 0.75A/W or higher, and integrated an indium phosphide lens on the rear of the chip to enhance optical reception efficiency and alignment convenience. The technology was presented at OECC 2025 and was recently published in the international academic journal 'Optics Express'.

SKT and Ericsson Expand Joint Research on AI Networks… Preparing for 6G Beyond 5G Advancement
SK Telecom and Ericsson are expanding AI-based mobile network collaboration. On the 19th, the two companies signed a memorandum of understanding covering 5G advancement through 6G standardization, and agreed to undertake joint research and verification in the areas of AI-RAN, open and autonomous networks, security, and future communication technologies. This collaboration is interpreted as a move to enhance current 5G operational efficiency while preparing for a 6G environment where AI becomes embedded throughout the network. The scope also includes network operations automation, multi-vendor environment response, energy efficiency improvements, and review of communication-sensing fusion technology.

SKT Receives International Standard for AI Data Center Interconnection Structure… Establishes Operating System Standards
SK Telecom's proposed AI data center interworking architecture has received final approval as an international standard at the International Telecommunication Union Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T) conference. The core of this standard is the classification of AI data centers into three layers—service, management, and infrastructure—and the organization of signaling requirements between layers. As AI service proliferation increases the importance of interworking among various systems within data centers such as computation, power, cooling, storage, and security, this standard is significant in that it presents a common architecture for operations and service delivery. SK Telecom stated that it initiated the relevant standardization project in 2024 and achieved this approval following approximately two years of discussion.
