Telit Launches MediaTek Single-Chip Based Location Information Receiving Module SL869 V2

Seoul, December 26, 2013. Telit Wireless Solutions (CEO Derek Sang, www.telit.com , hereinafter Telit), a specialist in M2M (machine-to-machine) modules and consulting services, announced today the launch of the Jupiter SL869 V2, the second-generation version of its position information receiver module, which offers the industry's highest performance. Designed based on MediaTek's low-power processor MT3333, this product provides extensive GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) reception capabilities. It also features easy solution implementation, excellent battery life performance, and supports simultaneous tracking of multiple satellite constellations. By providing a high-sensitivity RF front-end, it is suitable for consumer, commercial, and industrial devices that require stable and accurate geographical information recognition.
The Jupiter SL869 V2 supports GPS, Japan's QZSS, and Russia's GLONASS, and is capable of communicating with Europe's Galileo and China's Compass/Beidou. Both variant models provide simultaneous tracking capabilities for various satellite constellation combinations, such as GPS, Galileo, and GLONASS, or GPS, Galileo, and Compass/Beidou. Geographic information is transmitted via a standard UART port using the NMEA protocol. In particular, it supports Advanced Positioning System (A-GPS) and the High-Precision Positioning System (SBAS) to enhance the accuracy of location information. In addition, using an onboard software engine, position estimation data broadcast via GNSS satellites is received by the module and stored in internal flash memory, and position estimation information can be predicted three days before operation.
Solution integrators and developers can replace devices equipped with the JN3 and older SL869 versions with the SL869 V2 through simple application modifications. This enables the interchangeable use of the features of the JN3, SL869, and SL869 V2 within the same design. Telit's xL869 product family is all offered in the same GNSS form factor, allowing customers to choose from a variety of GNSS technologies and feature sets. The product family is available in a full 16 x 12.2 mm, 24-pad LCC package.
The SL869 V2 supports seamless integration with Telit's cellular modules, providing functional advantages to companies developing location-aware communication devices. All of Telit's cellular modules and location receiving modules can be bundled, simplifying development without additional costs. For example, companies seeking to supply emergency vehicle tracking solutions to the European and Russian markets can integrate multi-GNSS modules with eCall/ERA-GLONASS compliant cellular modules.
SR Tsai, Head of MediaTek’s Wireless Communications and Networking business unit, said, “We attach great significance to collaborating with Telit for next-generation multi-GNSS positioning solutions.” “MediaTek’s multi-satellite positioning technology has been proven globally, and in particular, the MT3333 single-chip SoC is expected to be highly utilized across various industries as it offers unrivaled performance, ease of integration, and low power consumption,” he said.
Taneli Tuurnala, Vice President and Head of Telit’s GNSS business unit, said, “The Jupiter SL869 V2 provides developers with a fast and easy design experience for location-aware products, particularly battery-operated solutions. Through our partnership with MediaTek, we are now able to supply receiver modules that offer innovative ease of use. With this new product at the center, we plan to actively target various vertical application markets, including fleet management systems, GNSS-based toll collection systems, wearable technology, embedded navigation, and telematics.”
