With an increasing number of cases where Eeum 5G frequencies are allocated to small and medium-sized enterprises such as Wizcore Co., Ltd., the spread of Eeum 5G across industrial sites is expected.

The Ministry of Science and ICT announced that it completed the allocation of Eum 5G frequencies and registration as a key telecommunications business for Wizcore Co., Ltd. (CEO Park Deok-geun) and the designation of frequencies for Korea Water Resources Corporation (CEO Park Jae-hyun) on October 28.

Wizcore, a pioneering SME specializing in intelligent factories, has been allocated the Eeum 5G frequency spectrum for the construction of test sites and training. This is the second such case, following Nable Communications.

With this frequency allocation, the number of operators allocated Eeum 5G frequencies has increased to eight. The Korea Water Resources Corporation became the fourth organization to be designated for Eeum 5G frequencies.

Wizcore and Korea Water Resources Corporation each applied for a 100 MHz bandwidth in the 4.7 GHz band as the frequency band. The Ministry of Science and ICT announced that it has decided to supply the entire requested frequency band after analyzing radio interference, etc., as it deemed the applicant corporation's service plan to be valid.

Wizcore announced that, having been allocated the Eeum 5G frequency, it plans to establish a test facility at its Yongin WeLab Center for collaborative robots, machine vision, and autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) to be applied as intelligent factory solutions, and provide trainees with practical training and hands-on experience with these solutions.

Korea Water Resources Corporation has been allocated the Eeum 5G frequency and plans to utilize it for virtual model-based water treatment plant control at the Busan Eco Delta City Smart Village, integrating intelligent cameras, IoT sensors, and autonomous robots.

Moving forward, Wizcore plans to expand its Eeum 5G convergence services based on intelligent factory solutions verified at test sites, while the Korea Water Resources Corporation plans to extend the application of virtual model-based control services not only to water treatment plants but also to the management of water quality and quantity information in rivers.

Meanwhile, Eum 5G frequency allocation refers to telecommunications operators using frequencies to provide services to others, such as companies and visitors. Currently, the eligible companies include Naver Cloud (December 2021), LG CNS (March and June 2022), SK Networks Service (May 2022), Nable Communications (August 2022), CJ OliveNetworks (August 2022), KT MOS North (September 2022), Sejong Telecom (September 2022), and Wizcore (October 2022).

The designation of Eeum 5G frequencies refers to an institution utilizing frequencies to promote its own business operations, research and development, etc., through the use of wireless networks. The agencies designated for Eeum 5G frequencies include the Navy (September 2022), Korea Electric Power Corporation (September 2022), KT (September 2022), and Korea Water Resources Corporation (October 2022).

Park Yun-gyu, the Second Vice Minister of Science and ICT, stated, “The allocation of Eum 5G frequencies is highly significant in that it marks the full-scale participation of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and pioneering companies in the Eum 5G market.” He added, “As Eum 5G can strengthen digital competitiveness and provide new growth opportunities for SMEs and pioneering companies, we will actively support the adoption of Eum 5G by them.”
