Incheon City Establishes 'GURS' Global Cooperation Framework with LA and Others

As the commercialization of UAM becomes a global issue, Incheon Metropolitan City is stepping up to accelerate the UAM era through international cooperation.

Incheon City held a press day at the Hyatt Hotel in Yeongjongdo on the 9th ahead of the main event of 'K-UAM CONFEX,' which will be held at the Paradise City Hotel in Yeongjong from November 10 to 12.

The speakers for the press day included Ahn Kwang-ho, Head of Aviation Division at Incheon City; Clint Harper, LA Aviation Commissioner; Omran Khalid Al Hammadi, Director General of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority; and Remi Bergues, Representative of the Paris Region.

Manager Ahn Gwang-ho suggested, "The urban infrastructure that enables cooperation with the areas companies are responsible for—that is, the city's capacity to accommodate—is important."

Incheon City announced that it is conducting research and development focused on improving urban acceptance in line with the government's 25-year commercialization goal for UAM, including 11 projects last year involving the analysis of Phase 4 of the air route and the analysis of the communication environment. In addition, a digital twin-based UAM platform for demonstration is also being built.

Manager Ahn stated, "We will establish a cooperative system with leading cities such as LA to formulate joint research and policies, and strive to drive commercialization through a joint effort between the government and the private sector."

Incheon City has formed the Global UAM Regional Summt (GURS) with cities such as Los Angeles, Paris, Dubai, and Munich to initiate international urban air mobility cooperation.

This initiative plans to formulate joint policies, such as inter-city R&D, and for industry, academia, and research institutes to work together to create a virtuous cycle structure for the city regarding the urban air mobility system.

LA Commissioner Clint Harper argued, "We can solve urban problems technically and politically by cooperating with other countries around the world," and added, "In particular, Incheon and LA have many similarities, so we should continue cooperation regardless of the election."

Manager Ahn stated, "Incheon is the optimal city for UAM due to its geographical advantages as well as its airport," adding, "Incheon plans to apply UAM starting from island areas to the tourism sector, and then consider commercialization within the city center."

Meanwhile, 'K-UAM CONFEX,' held under the theme 'CITY CONNECTED,' marks its second edition this year and aims to discuss the latest UAM technology trends and foster the establishment of a cooperative framework among various global cities, institutions, and companies. The event is scheduled to include conferences, booth exhibitions, a Biz Salon, and the Boss Forum AAM/UAM Joint Roundtable.
