Samsung Electronics has become the world's first company to support UWB (Ultra-Wideband)-based 'digital home key' in Samsung Pay, increasing convenience for smartphone users by allowing contactless entry without authentication by simply holding their smartphone.

Samsung Electronics, in collaboration with comprehensive proptech company Zigbang, installed the 'Zigbang UWB Smart Door Lock' digital home key into Samsung Pay on the 28th.

With the UWB digital home key integrated into Samsung Pay, Samsung Pay users who have installed the Zigbang UWB smart door lock can easily open their home doors simply by approaching the door lock.

This means that users can conveniently enter and exit without contact, without having to go through a separate authentication process such as entering a password, simply by carrying their smartphone, and they no longer need to search for their house keys in their pockets or bags.

You can also set up a door lock between family members so they know who is coming in and out when they open the door through the Jikbang app.

If a user loses their smartphone, they can disable the use of the digital home key through ‘Find My Device’ (https://findmymobile.samsung.com/) on their PC.

Samsung Pay's ZigBee UWB digital home key can be used on the Galaxy Fold 4, S22 Ultra, and Plus, which feature UWB functionality. Samsung Electronics plans to continue releasing smartphones equipped with UWB.

UWB technology is a short-range wireless communication protocol that utilizes radio waves, like Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. It is characterized by being able to measure distances precisely down to centimeters (cm) by utilizing high-frequency bands and supporting directionality.

Samsung Electronics established FiRa (Fine Ranging Consortium), a UWB technology standards organization, in 2019, and this digital home key service also utilizes UWB technology certified by FiRa.

Additionally, Samsung Pay Digital Home Key protects users' sensitive information and encrypted keys through an industry-leading security chipset, and is safe from potential hacking risks such as interference or interception of wireless signals due to its precise UWB technology.

Samsung Electronics will continue to strengthen cooperation with partners and actively listen to user feedback to further expand the convenience of Samsung Pay.
