Linear Technology Introduces 80V Synchronous SEPIC/Inverting/Boost DC/DC Controller

January 29, 2014 – Linear Technology Korea (CEO Hong Sa-gwak) announced the launch of its first synchronous SEPIC, inverting, boost, and flyback multi-topology DC/DC controller (product name: LT8710). This synchronous device replaces the output diode with a high-efficiency P-channel MOSFET, increasing efficiency and maximum output current (up to 10A) while eliminating the heat sink commonly required in the middle of high-power applications. These characteristics enable the LT8710 to realize highly diverse functionality for a wide range of power supply designs.
The LT8710 operates in the input voltage range of 4.5V to 80V and generates output voltage dependent on external component selection. Through rail-to-rail output current monitoring and control, the device can be configured as a current source. The LT8710 features a groundbreaking EN/FBIN pin circuit for slowly changing input signals and adjustable low voltage lockout functionality. This pin can also be used for input voltage regulation, preventing the collapse of high-impedance input sources such as solar panels. The LT8710 can be used in a wide range of applications including automotive, battery charging, and general-purpose applications.
Fixed operating frequency is selectable in the range of 100kHz to 700kHz and can be synchronized with an external clock. Current mode control provides excellent line and load regulation. The LT8710 can be configured for continuous or pulse-skip operation mode during light load conditions. Additional features include single-pin positive or negative output voltage sensing, a flag pin that can be used as a power good indicator, C/10 indication for accurate bulk and battery floating voltage, and an integrated soft-start circuit.
