Linear, 42V Synchronous Step-Down Regulator Launch

February 4, 2014 – Linear Technology Korea (CEO Hong Sa-gwak) announced the launch of a 6A, 42V input synchronous step-down switching regulator (product name: LT8612).
Synchronous rectification provides high efficiency of 95%, while Burst Mode® operation maintains quiescent current of 3µA or less under no-load standby conditions. This product's input voltage range of 3.4V to 42V is ideal for automotive and industrial applications. The internal high-efficiency switch delivers continuous output current of up to 6A at a low voltage of 0.97V.
The LT8612's Burst Mode operation provides minimum quiescent current and is ideal for applications such as automotive "always-on" systems. This characteristic is essential for extending battery operating life. The LT8612's unique design maintains a minimum dropout voltage of only 250mV at 3A under all conditions, demonstrating excellent performance in scenarios such as automotive cold crank.
Additionally, the fast operating time with a minimum on-time of only 40ns realizes constant frequency switching of 2MHz from 16V input to 1.5V output. Through this characteristic, designers can optimize efficiency while avoiding noise-sensitive critical frequency bands. The LT8612's 28-pin 3mm x 6mm QFN package and high switching frequency keep external inductors and capacitors small, providing a compact footprint with excellent thermal efficiency.
The LT8612 utilizes internal high-efficiency power switches at the top and bottom stages, with essential boost diode, oscillator, control and logic circuits integrated on a single die. Low ripple Burst Mode operation maintains output ripple below 10mVPK-PK while maintaining high efficiency at low output currents. Special design techniques and new high-speed processes realize high efficiency across a wide input voltage range, and the LT8612's current-mode topology achieves fast transient response and excellent loop stability. Other features include internal compensation, power good flag, output soft start/tracking and thermal protection capabilities.

ST Launches 75V Drive IC Targeting 48V Industrial Motor Driving
ST Microelectronics has unveiled the 'STSPIN9P' series of 75V motor drive ICs tailored for 48V-class industrial drive system design.
