Hydrogen Cooperation Roundtable Held… Expectations for Revitalizing Hydrogen Industry Cooperation
Current status of hydrogen economy implementation and best practices from the private sector to be shared

With Korea participating as the Host Country for the 2023 Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Seminar (HFCS) in the United States, discussions on cooperation between the Korean and U.S. industries in the hydrogen sector are expected to take place in earnest.

The Hydrogen Convergence Alliance (hereinafter H2KOREA) announced that Korea will participate as the guest of honor at the '2023 Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Seminar (HFCS)' to be held in Los Angeles, California on February 7.

A forum for discussion has been established with the goal of revitalizing the hydrogen industry in Korea and the United States and strengthening cooperation between the two countries, raising expectations that cooperation in the hydrogen industry between the two nations will be 활성화 (activated/boosted).

The Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Seminar (HFCS), to be held in the United States this February, is a representative international hydrogen industry event in North America with a history of about 40 years. It is an authoritative event in which governments and companies from many countries participate, and it is supported by the U.S. government.

H2KOREA, Hyundai Motor Company, SK E&S, Korea Zinc, Mico Power, and KOREA H2 Business Summit, who are participating in this event, held a signing ceremony for business agreements and a launching ceremony among participating organizations and companies on January 12 to ensure the success of the event. />
Representative Korean companies, including H2KOREA, plan to hold special guest country events during the event, which will be held for three days from February 7 to 9, including: hosting a 'Korea-US Hydrogen Cooperation Roundtable' with the participation of representative companies and governments from both countries; hosting a 'Guest Country Special Session' to discuss Korea's hydrogen economy policies and cooperation between the two countries; and operating a 'Korea Promotion Pavilion' to introduce Korea's hydrogen industry.

In addition, together with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and KOTRA, we plan to publicize the current status of Korea's hydrogen economy implementation and share excellent success stories from the private sector.

The six companies that signed the business agreement on this day pledged to actively participate in and support various activities held during the event to ensure the successful hosting of the event and to promote the Korean hydrogen industry.

At a time when both Korea and the United States are actively pursuing the implementation of a hydrogen economy at the national level to achieve carbon neutrality, participation as the guest country is expected to serve as an opportunity to open the door to substantive cooperation between the two countries in the hydrogen industry.

Moon Jae-do, Chairman of H2KOREA, stated, “By participating in the 2023 HFCS event as the guest of honor, we will create a venue for discussions on Korea-U.S. hydrogen cooperation with the United States, which aims to lead the hydrogen economy by producing 1 kg of clean hydrogen for $1 within the next 10 years following the enactment of the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) last year. We will also visualize concrete cooperation models through high-level meetings with relevant agencies and companies, including the U.S. Department of Energy.” He added, “I hope this will serve as a foundation for establishing a cooperative relationship between the two countries in future energy fields such as hydrogen.”
