Xilinx Announces Smarter Wireless Solutions Addressing Performance Requirements of Next-Generation LTE and Multicarrier GSM Platforms
Xilinx Korea (Branch Manager An Heung-sik) February 20, 2014 – Xilinx announced the availability of smarter wireless solutions that meet the performance, power output, and cost requirements of next-generation LTE and multicarrier GSM (MC-GSM) platforms. The new solution, which includes Crest Factor Reduction (CFR) and Digital Pre-Distortion (DPD) as part of the Xilinx® SmartCORE™ IP product family, improves wireless efficiency by up to 50%, reducing tens of millions of dollars in operational costs required for network operations. Through the combination of high efficiency provided by Xilinx CFR and SmartCORE IP and the Zynq®-7000 all programmable SoC, single-chip wireless can be implemented, thereby reducing board space and overall power consumption to achieve lower total cost.
As data demand continues to grow but average revenue per user (ARPU) does not increase at the same rate, operators are seeking new frequency bands, increased wireless spectrum, and new network architectures. Operators face the challenge of managing energy costs while improving efficiency of their networks. Xilinx's enhanced CFR and DPD IP cores provide higher levels of power efficiency. Efficiency of over 40% can be achieved in LDMOS-based power amplifiers and up to 50% in GaN-based power amplifiers. Xilinx's CFR and DPD IP supports a broad wireless spectrum up to 100MHz compliant with TD-LTE and FD-LTE standards and supports multi-standard implementation requiring legacy support for MC-GSM. The DPD and CFR solutions are scalable to support the following:
- Multiple air interface standards (LTE (TDD/FDD), MC-GSM, WCDMA, CDMA2000, TD-SCDMA)
- Multiple antennas
- High calibration performance
- Fast conversion time
- Multiple RAT configurations (WCDMA + GSM, LTE + GSM on the same radio)
