Linear Releases 60V Multi-Phase Synchronous Boost Controller

February 20, 2014 – Linear Technology Korea (CEO Hong Sa-kwak) announced the launch of a high-power two-phase single output synchronous step-up DC/DC controller (product name: LTC3784). This device enables replacement of rectification boost diodes with high-efficiency N-channel MOSFETs. The device can generate 24V 10A output from 12V input at maximum 97% efficiency, requiring no separate heat sink. The LTC3784 operates at input voltages ranging from 4.5V to 60V during startup, and continues operation even after the input voltage drops to 2.3V after startup, with the capability to regulate output voltages up to 60V maximum.
When configured with Burst Mode® operation, the LTC3784's 28µA standby current extends battery operating time in standby mode while maintaining output voltage regulation, making it ideal for "always-on" automotive applications. The robust 1.2 Ohm on-board N-channel MOSFET gate driver enables fast driving of large MOSFETs. The device's current mode architecture, clock output, and phase modulation provide multi-phase operation up to 12 phases in all high-power applications, enabling easy parallel connection of multiple devices.
The LTC3784 offers a fixed switching frequency range of 75kHz to 850kHz or selectable fixed frequencies from 50kHz to 900kHz. Additionally, the device provides cycle-by-cycle adjustable current limit functionality and can utilize the voltage drop across the inductor (DCR) for sensing resistance or current detection. In keep-alive applications where input voltage exceeds regulated output voltage, using the LTC3784 allows the synchronous MOSFET to remain continuously enabled, enabling the output voltage to track the input voltage with minimal power loss. Furthermore, the LTC3784 provides adjustable soft start and power good output, maintaining ±1% reference voltage accuracy over the operating junction temperature range of -55°C to 150°C (MP grade products).
The LTC3784 is available in SSOP-28 and 4mm x 5mm QFN-28 packages. The LTC3784E and LTC3784I versions operate at junction temperatures of -40°C to 125°C. The LTC3784H grade guarantees operation at operating junction temperatures of -40°C to 150°C. The LTC3784MP guarantees operation over the operating junction temperature range of -55°C to 150°C.

ST Launches 75V Drive IC Targeting 48V Industrial Motor Driving
ST Microelectronics has unveiled the 'STSPIN9P' series of 75V motor drive ICs tailored for 48V-class industrial drive system design.
