3D Platform and Virtual Twin Technology Leading Digital Transformation

Sustainability is emerging as a new business value. Celebrating its 25th anniversary, Dassault Systèmes leverages its expertise in the manufacturing industry to expand its support for customers' sustainable digital transformation through the 3DEXPERIENCE platform and virtual twin strategy.

Dassault Systèmes Korea celebrated the 25th anniversary of its Korean branch this year by holding a press conference at COEX on the 2nd and announcing Dassault Systèmes' strategy and vision for 2023. On this day, Dassault Systèmes announced that it had appointed Jeong Woon-seong, head of the sales division, as the new CEO.

Dassault Systèmes CEO Jeong Woon-seong expressed his ambition, saying, "Dassault Systèmes will expand its business in the manufacturing, life sciences, and infrastructure sectors, and drive strategic growth by driving sustainability in new business sectors through the 3D Experience platform and virtual twin technology."

Headquartered in Paris, Dassault Systèmes, along with its partners, has over 22,000 customers and supports their sustainable digital transformation. The company announced that its domestic market size, encompassing manufacturing, infrastructure and urban development, and life sciences and healthcare, is estimated to exceed 2 trillion won.

CEO Jeong emphasized virtual twins, saying, "Dassault Systèmes aims to lead the digital transformation of Korean industry, expand the industrial metaverse, and ultimately expand human-centered experiences."

Virtual twins are about optimizing collaborative ecosystems, including designing and experiencing areas that didn't exist before. While a digital twin optimizes production based on existing information, a virtual twin differs in that it supports an integrated medium that links all design, development, and operation stages.

CEO Yang said that Dassault Systèmes' key differentiator is "integrating non-siloed data from each stage into a virtual twin on a 3D platform."

Ultimately, Dassault Systèmes pursues technology that enables virtual twins by running modeling, simulation, and data domains on a 3D platform. The 12 key industry groups include consumer goods, automotive mobility, aerospace, defense, shipbuilding, healthcare, public energy, home life, services, and construction.

Next, Yang Kyung-ran, CEO of Business Consulting, said, "By implementing virtual twins and running simulations that implement objects, spaces, nature, and humans in a virtual space, we can theoretically try infinitely many things and find alternatives," and "Virtual twins are an innovative and eco-friendly way to reduce carbon emissions."

Dassault Systèmes has received the highest rating from ESG rating agencies and continues to engage in activities to raise awareness with customers and supply chains.

According to Accenture, by 2030, virtual twins could have an economic value of $1.3 trillion across consumer goods, mobility, life sciences, and electronics and electrical sectors, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 7.5 gigatons. It is explained that it is useful for achieving sustainability in all processes, from the research and development stage, to design, manufacturing and construction, transportation and logistics, operation, and disposal.

Representative Yang introduced examples of companies that have applied sustainability technologies, including electric vehicle startup NIO, packaging company Amcor, Moderna, which developed a COVID-19 vaccine using virtual twins, and POSCO, which prevented disasters with 3D work instructions using virtual twins for construction sites and construction equipment.

Yang Young-wook, head of Winix R&D, and Park Ki-wan, managing director of Hyundai Genuine's ICT division, presented real-world application examples. Hyundai Genuine announced plans to build a "High-Performance Digital Integrated Global Collaboration Platform (New GPDM) for three construction equipment companies" and expand its market through integrated model design with Dassault Systèmes.

Meanwhile, Dassault Systèmes stated that it is actively involved in the defense industry, providing a 3D platform to support the KF22 aircraft technology. Samson Khau, President and CEO of Dassault Systèmes Asia Pacific, emphasized the importance of building country-specific data and the need for domestic partnerships.
