Demonstrated capability to supply infotainment systems and telematics with cybersecurity
Securing competitiveness in the security sector, including acquisition of automotive cybersecurity company ‘Cybellum’

LG Electronics is strengthening its global battlefield market strategy by acquiring the Cyber Security Management System (CSMS) certification, a new mandatory certification.

LG Electronics recently completed certification of its vehicle cybersecurity management system from TUV Rheinland, an internationally recognized testing and certification agency, and received the certificate on the 20th.

The Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) adopted the vehicle cybersecurity-related regulation 'UNECER-155 (UNECE Regulation No. 155: Cybersecurity Regulation)' in June 2020, and it officially came into effect in January 2021.

Accordingly, all vehicles entering development after July 2022 must be certified with a cybersecurity management system in accordance with the relevant regulations before being released in countries party to the Economic Commission for Europe agreement.

The Economic Commission for Europe includes 56 countries from Asia, Oceania, and Africa, including the European Union, Korea, and Japan.
/> With this certification, LG Electronics has opened the door to a stable supply of infotainment systems and telematics components with thorough cybersecurity to automakers selling vehicles in member countries of the Economic Commission for Europe.

Cybersecurity management system certification is a process that thoroughly evaluates capabilities through mock hacking penetration tests and other means, assuming various scenarios and verifying whether security is properly applied throughout the entire process from design, development, production, and after-sales management.

The Economic Commission for Europe requires that cybersecurity management systems be operated in compliance with the international standard for vehicle cybersecurity, 'ISO/SAE 21434'.

ISO/SAE 21434 is an international standard that defines processes for cybersecurity activities throughout the entire product life cycle of a vehicle, from planning through development, manufacturing, maintenance, and disposal.

By obtaining this cybersecurity management system certification, LG Electronics will further strengthen its position in the global market as a major electrical components supplier that can be trusted by automobile customers.

Even before the European Economic Commission enacted the regulation, LG Electronics had been implementing rigorous, in-house cybersecurity processes that exceeded the demands of its customers.

In addition, we plan to proactively respond to cybersecurity-related regulations required not only in Europe but also in North America and Asia.

LG Electronics is steadily securing the necessary capabilities and competitiveness in the security field, which is becoming increasingly important in the automotive industry, such as by acquiring the management rights of Cybellum, an Israeli automotive cybersecurity company, in 2021.

In October last year, LG Uplus signed a business agreement with Cryptolab, a startup specializing in cryptography, and began utilizing post-quantum cryptography (PQC) technology to strengthen the cybersecurity competitiveness of its battlefield business.
