Analog Devices Unveils Two Additional Software Defined Radio (SDR) Platform Solutions

February 27, 2014 – Analog Devices ( www.analog.com , NASDAQ: ADI), a global leader in high-performance semiconductors for signal processing applications, today announced two software-defined radio (SDR) platform solutions and ecosystems. This expands the family of platform solutions to four, which simplify the prototyping and development of high-speed SDR systems in a wide range of applications, from military electronics, RF instrumentation, and communications infrastructure to open-source SDR development projects.
The AD-FMCOMMS4-EBZ is a transceiver FMC module that has been newly added to Analog Devices' expanded family of single-channel SDR solutions. This product features the AD9364 RF transceiver IC in a cost-effective 1 x 1 SDR high-speed prototyping FMC module. The AD-FMCOMMS3-EBZ is also a transceiver FMC module designed for applications using the 70 MHz to 6 GHz bandwidth, such as portable and whitespace (broadcast frequency band) radios. Like the previously announced AD-FMCOMMS2-EBZ FMC module, this product is a dual-channel product built around the AD9361 RF transceiver on a 2 x 2 SDR wireless prototyping module.
Analog Devices' new FMC module includes both hardware description language (HDL) code and device drivers, enabling designers to quickly build and run an SDR platform, thereby reducing system development time and risk. Detailed information on ADI's SDR solutions, including RF high-speed transceiver ICs, FMC high-speed prototyping platforms, and various discrete components, can be found at SDR Revolution.
ADI's SDR platform solution family, including the additional products unveiled today, is as follows.
Single-channel SDR high-speed prototyping FMC module
• AD-FMCOMMS4-EBZ – A cost-effective 1 x 1 SDR high-speed prototyping module featuring the AD9364 RF high-speed transceiver IC, capable of achieving maximum RF performance in a wide frequency band of 2400–2500 MHz or 70 MHz–6 GHz depending on software configuration.
• AD-FMCOMMS1-EBZ – Composed of high-speed ADI RFIC discrete components, this module provides a hardware platform for various research, academic, industrial, and defense RF applications using the 400 MHz to 4 GHz band.
Dual-channel SDR high-speed prototyping FMC module
• AD-FMCOMMS2-EBZ – Optimized for maximum RF performance in the 2400–2500 MHz range, this module features the AD9361 RF high-speed transceiver IC mounted on a 2 x 2 SDR high-speed prototyping board and is suitable for RF engineers requiring optimized system performance. Avnet sells the complete SDR kit AES-ZSDR2-ADI-G, consisting of the AD-FMCOMMS2-EBZ and ZedBoard™.
• AD-FMCOMMS3-EBZ – This 2 x 2 module supports frequency bands from 70 MHz to 6 GHz and uses the AD9361 RF high-speed transceiver IC, making it suitable for wireless communication SDR system designers who require an integrated development platform that supports a wide bandwidth. Avnet sells the AES-ZSDR3-ADI-G, a complete SDR kit consisting of the AD-FMCOMMS3-EBZ and Xilinx ZC706.
