
Seoul, March 4, 2014. Telit Wireless Solutions (CEO Derek Sang, www.telit.com , hereinafter Telit), a specialist in M2M (machine-to-machine) modules and consulting services, announced today the launch of its new GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) module, the 'Jupiter SL871'. Designed based on the MediaTek low-power MT3333 core, the Jupiter SL871 is suitable for GNSS applications requiring long battery life without the need for communication ports such as USB or CAN buses, and features such as DR (dead-reckoning) and TRAIM (Time Receiver Autonomous Integrity Monitor). Advanced features such as DR, TRAIM, and communication port support are provided through the recently released SL869 V2 model in the same product family.
The SL871 supports various national satellite navigation systems, such as GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, or Compass/Beidou, depending on the combination of GPS, Galileo, and GLONASS or onboard software options, and receives multiple location data simultaneously via standard UART. It provides various GNSS indoor fixes through an ultra-sensitive RF front-end, helping to quickly determine location information even in complex environments such as high-density urban areas.
Jupiter SL871 supports position estimation file injection (A-GPS) and ultra-precision positioning system SBAS to improve the accuracy of positioning information. In addition, using an onboard software engine, the module receives position estimation data broadcast via GNSS satellites, stores it in internal flash memory, and can predict position estimation information three days prior to operation. Furthermore, through intelligent power modes and AGPS, it maintains an optimized balance between accuracy and power consumption to ensure maximum battery life.
Developers of communication devices for receiving location information can eliminate development complexity without additional costs by bundling the cellular module and the location information receiving module. For example, if a multi-GNSS module and Telit's eCall/ERA-GLONASS compliant cellular module are simultaneously applied to an emergency vehicle tracking solution, a product that can be launched in the European and Russian markets can be developed without separate procedures.
