The Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI, President Shin Hee-dong) and the Korean National Police University (President Kim Soon-ho) have joined hands for ICT-based forensic science.

On the 12th, KETI signed a 'Memorandum of Understanding for Mutual Exchange of Scientific Security Education, Research, and Academic Events' with the Korean National Police University at the main building of the Korean National Police University in Asan, South Chungcheong Province.

Through this business agreement, the two organizations agreed to establish a mutual R&D cooperation system and continuously secure new research areas, such as incorporating KETI's advanced information and communication technology into the field of forensic science.

KETI has been participating in the 'Development of Advanced Scientific Crime Investigation Technology' project promoted by the National Police Agency since 2021, and is developing investigation support technology applicable to actual investigation sites by incorporating AI (artificial intelligence) and big data technologies.

The National Police Agency, to which the Korean National Police University belongs, announced the slogan "Scientific policing responsible for public safety, Korean police leading global standards" through the Police Future Vision 2050 announced last September. In particular, it has established detailed tasks to realize scientific policing by continuously expanding the budget for public security R&D and incorporating advanced future technologies such as artificial intelligence and big data.

Through a memorandum of understanding, KETI and the Korean National Police University agreed to cooperate on: jointly promoting research and academic events in the field of scientific policing; exchanging research personnel; and providing lecture support by KETI personnel..

In addition, both organizations plan to establish practical cooperation measures to ensure that advanced ICT technologies are established in domestic forensic science by linking the field validation of research results in the field of scientific policing.

KETI President Shin Hee-dong stated, “National scientific policing requires the convergence of research capabilities from industry, academia, and research institutes more than ever before, as it prevents sophisticated new types of crimes and improves the accuracy of investigation results,” adding, “KETI will do its utmost to provide relevant technical support so that the Korean police can lead global standards in the field of public security R&D and guarantee public safety.”
