March 7, 2014 – Linear Technology Corporation announces the introduction of the LT8301, a monolithic flyback converter that simplifies the design of isolated DC/DC converters. By sampling the isolated output voltage directly from the primary-side flyback waveform, the part requires no separate optocoupler or third winding for output regulation. The LT8301 operates over a 2.7V to 42V input voltage range, has a 1.2A/65V integrated power switch, and delivers up to 6W of output power, making it suitable for a wide range of industrial, medical, datacom, military and automotive applications.
The LT8301 operates in boundary mode. Boundary mode is a variable frequency current mode control switching circuit that provides ±5% regulation over the entire line, load and temperature range. The output voltage is easily set by a single resistor and the transformer turns ratio. A variety of off-the-shelf transformers, which are listed in the data sheet, are readily available for numerous applications. High integration, boundary mode, low ripple BurstMode® operation provides a highly efficient solution with ease of use and low component count. Additional features include overload protection, 380µA no-load quiescent current while the output voltage is in regulation, built-in soft-start, built-in loop compensation and output diode temperature compensation.
The LT8301 is available in a small TSOT-23 package. Extended industrial versions operate over a –40°C to 125°C junction temperature range. High temperature automotive grade operates from –40°C to 150°C, while military grade operates from –55°C to 150°C.
